Hi all,

næstep here. I spend way too much time over at mtbr; this is my first post on the Monkey. Been spending a lot of time lurking in my search for info on the Hollowpoint. Thanks to -BB-, syadasti, KPicha, and of course dw and Todd for helping me with my decision.

The Hollowpoint is going to replace the NRS I've had for the past year, which also had the Speedhub installed.

I want to share some pics of how the build is going so far, but rather than uploading every image twice, here's a link to my post over at MTBR:

Hollowpoint Build Pics Part I

No ride report yet. Hopefully Monday I can get it out on the trail.

NIce man!

Is the overall weight difference of the speed hub less then that of a convential rear derailure?

My hollowpoint is on the way!

Thanks guys.

The Speedhub adds about 1.5 pounds over an XT drivetrain, but I've never been much of a weight weenie to be bothered by it.

Just as a comparison, my stock NRS weighed in a bit over 28lbs out of the box and with an 80mm Judy; with the Speedhub and XVert it came in just a bit shy of 30lbs. Those are bathroom scale weights, nothing too precise.

From webcyclery it costs 900 and it says it weighs
1742.00 grams
3.84 pounds

It's a cool mod but way to expensive for me right now...

Best way to justify one is either (a) buy one that comes with a bike, (b) buy it instead of a complete component group during a frame build-up, or (c) auction off a complete drivetrain from a new bike to help offset the cost.

Option (c) may not pay off immediately depending on the component spec, but the Hollowpoint has all XT components (except for the rear hub), which does allright on eBay. But even (c) pays off when you shift the Speedhub to a second bike.

Whatever the case, when you start adding in the cost of replacement cassettes, chains, rings and derailleurs, plus the occassional replacement shifter, the Speedhub actually becomes more cost-effective.

We both have the Expert.

Yeah I hear ya... though næstep. I just want to ride my new bike though, I don't want to have to wait around... but I like your ideas.
