Has anyone one here had any experience with this? Been homeschooled(or still doing it), or homeschool their kids?

My parents and I have been thinking about doing it as my high school is a bit of a joke. For example, I have "Architectural Drawing and Design", which consists of playstation on the overhead(full two steering wheel setup, brought in by the teacher), having the TV on all of class and computer use, which for me equals RM and other sites. That class is basically 1.5 hours of internet use for me. Then geometry, the class where you can saw anything(and I mean anything ) at the top of your lungs and not get in trouble, as in asking the teacher if the worksheets are porno, or why so many people give head during class. The teacher just does not seem to get anything and has zero control. There is a story for each and every day of class.

I have a few cousins who are much younger than me that are homeschooled and are doing great. One of them has got to be the brightest kid I have ever met. I also have a cousin my age in California who will graduate about 6 months early because she is homeschooled. She works full time too.

My parents are worried that I might miss some of the social aspects of school, but I am not too much for that as it is.

Somebody fill me in!

thanks-

switch public high schools or go to a private school. if that's not an option, try homeschooling. if you do go that route, you'll definitely miss out on the social aspect, but an education really is first. good luck and let us know what happens.

very true... i've met several people who have been homeschooled.... all of which were socially inept.

you'll miss the fun social stuff, but you're too old to worry about some sort of social retardation.

Yeah, but I don't do to much of that stuff anyways. I am not a loner or anything like that, I just don't do too much of it.

???

What year are you in hs? I'm dead serious about going to a private school. Here in CA, the ones I know of don't necessarily offer a better education, but they do get the job done. In your case, a private school may very well be the best option you have. High school is truly an experience and it's something everyone should have to go through.

Give it a shot. You've already been in school for the past 10 or so years. Taking a break and trying something new might be a great change for you.

Of all the homeschooled children I've met, there has only been one family that was "weird". ALL of the other kids were very well balanced, seemed more mature and were quite capable of carrying on an intelligent conversation.
Homeschooled kids are dealing with people from all different ages throughout the day, i.e. older/younger siblings vs. schooled children who are only dealing with their own age group for the majority of the day. There are TONS of homeschooling organizations so if you're missing out on socialization, its your (your meaning anyone who homeschools, not you in particular :) )own fault.

I hope your parents are supportive of this idea b/c they're the ones who will be spending the most time with you and picking out the curriculum. The organizing and deciding on the curriculum with take a boatload of time and energy b/c its almost overwhelming with all of the options out there (as I'm finding out since I'm thinking about doing this with my kids). Plus, its a heck of a lot less expensive than a Private school.

Anyway, if you want to do it, go for it! If you have any ideas on what colleges you're interested in attending, check out the ratio of homeschooled students to schooled students and where they stand on test scores. That might help give you an idea of where you'll stand if you decide to do this. Good Luck!

From what I've noticed of two ppl I know that were home schooled and for what ever reason now go to highschool in their last year is that, first they have insane marks like 100% in everything. So thats good but they have absolutely no social skills at all. So the way I see being really samrt with no social skills won't get you very far in life. So try another school first IMHO.

i did sort of a home schooling private school thing. it was when i lived in Washington state and i went to a ladies house once a week for an hour and she gave me stuff to do. it was nice and it was a small class of like 10 kids. and the way i looked at it is it gave me more time to ride and work so i liked it. and it was an a credited school so i did get a real diploma. thats the downside to home schooling is you dont really get a diploma you get more of a g.e.d so thats one thing you should think about to. but other than that i have no complainst about it. cause i did it for like 5 years and graduated a year early. just make sure you keep in touch with your friends.
