Honda Tranny?

The new honda tranny uses a 7 speed widely spaced set of sprockets. Why is it only 7 speeds, and wouldn't a closely spaced set of sprockets shift quicker?

Cause 7 is all you need for DH.
I'm not sure about the wide space. Wide chain? larger step between gears?
The wide chain would be stronger and last longer. Same chain as 8sp.

the surplus 7spd cassettes i've seen are HEAVY.

though i do understand the only need 7 gears. i think i used like 4-5 at plattekill all year.

only used the rest to roam around the camps.

hmm...lets see, 100k bike....yeah why slurge on the good stuff when we can buy surplus 7sp casettes found on your moms K-Mart hybrid...

its really not that hard to space cogs out differently on a custom basis.
