Has anybody ever strategically increased a layover to a "stopover"? I'm planning our honeymoon and am thinking of two separate hemispherical vacations...one to NZ with a stop in Tahiti or the Cook Islands or something like that, and the other to Saint Maarten and then Paris...with about 4-5 days in each. Are there any strategies or good websites to use when looking at airfare or packages that would allow me to not break the bank and still see both A) a beach for a week, and B) some "culture" for a little while.

I typically book my stuff through Sidestep, cheapcarribean, or Jetblue itself (love that airline)...but this is going to be a highly technical planning process since I need two separate hotels and either a three way flight or a round trip with a "strategic lay/stopover" someplace nice.
