Can i use Hayes Rotors with my Hope M4's? I have 8inch on the front and 6 inch rear brakes. We don't have a Hope Distributor in Australia so i'm hoping i can substitute the Hayes Rotors instead.
Probably not. pre 2006 hope brakes used diffrent sized rotors. That is if you have the Mono's. instead of hayes 203mm (8") hope uses a 200mm rotor. Your hayes rotor will rub on the body of the hope caliper. and hope used a 160mm and hayes uses a 165.
Sorry its a no on this one too. Hayes uses actual hydrolic brake fluid while the shimano brakes use mineral oil for fluids. and there are probably other compatibility issues as well.
I believe you can use saint calipers with older xt levers though.

i never try or even measure any of this, but 203MM diameter is equivalent to a 101.5MM Radius,,, aka a 1.5MM diference in between the two, also i my experince the hope calipers (I have pretty much every model they make, from the Ti-6 to the Old minis) have about that amount of upper clearance for the rotor, the brake pad material will not reach that high but is not a big deal...
if everything fails, you can always mount the rotor on a lattle (Making sure is mounted solid, ussing some rigid plates to keep it away from bending, warping or deforming) and take away the minumum amount possible (so you don't weaking the rotors at the "speed Holes")
just as sugestion, again i never try this before but i also know a Vernier caliper never lies...
If you have an older M4 (non Mono) you can get away with a Hayes rotor since the older version is a 205mm. However it my make the pads wear incorrectly.
