Hope non-Mono M4 persistent fouling...

...anyone else have issues with their non-Mono M4s suffering from recurring fouling? My rear brake has gone through two sets of pads in short order (OE, then EBC Golds). Got two rides out of the EBCs and then the pads were toast.

Looking at the caliper, it appears as though fluid is coming out of the forward outboard piston. I've checked as bolts/fittings and they're sufficiently snug.

Hope Tech blames the pads - saying they dislike EBC - but this has occurred to both the stockers and aftermarket. Brake is set up 100% with no chime or drag. Also, no extended DH runs that would have cooked the pads. Not happy with Hope's response to just blame the pads - the EBC Golds have worked like champs on these M4s (pre-fouling) as well as my Minis for 3+ seasons.

Thanks in advance,

Sean

It could be a bad piston seal, plus you may be running the wrong pads, the golds are for wet riding ONLY and heat up REAL bad if your using them as an everyday pad, that maybe causing the leak possibly from excessive heat from those pads. You're better off changing the piston seals, rebleading and installing EBC green pads. That should take care of it.

...I've run Hope Minis and M4s on my bikes for 3 years now and have always run the EBC Golds with no issues here in often wet/muddy MN.

Speedgoat, which is one of the better versed shops in Hope speak, was thinking bad piston seal as well, but Hope Tech essentially dismissed it outright. I'm going to pull it all apart tonight and take a look see.

The odd thing is that the Golds worked great for two rides in a row and then the next time I grab my bike they are toast. No clear leakage other than some dusty residue concentrated near the front outboard piston. I've pulled these brakes apart to swap caliper halves/rotor sizes but I've never monkeyed with the pistons.

These things were flat out bomber for nearly all of two seasons until this recent recurring issue appeared.
