The internal axle on the original Pro II hub (pre-Evo) snaps. I broke two before upgrading to the Evo. The main hub body is the same, they made the axle thicker where it breaks, but you need a lot of parts to convert (from memory bearings, axle, freehub body) so it's cheaper to just buy a Pro II Evo or Pro 4. The Evo also came in a 40T enagement version near the end of its life which is probably the best version if you wanted to keep the same spokes / length.

CRC was the only place I knew to get the conversion parts.
You could contact Hope directly otherwise, if you don't wish to buy a whole new hub.

Possibly a stupid question, have you emailed Hope? They are extremely helpful and replied extremely quickly when I had issues.

I also snapped two axles on a Pro 2 rear hub, they snapped using both types of Maxles. .

Might just need axle and endcaps, see what Hope says. I was emailing with them a few weeks ago about putting an XD driver on my original Pro2, solution was convert to EVO version.

I thought the Hope Pro 2 and Evo hubs were different; as in no way to convert the old to new Evo.

Can confirm though, your axles in the Pro 2 will be paper thin. Hope sent me a steel axle after mine snapped.

I don't know if this is what happened to you guys but the Pro 2 axle were known to break when used in combination with tapered maxle lite vs one with constant diameter :

I'm on a set on og pro 2 since 2009 and never had problem. That said, I must be doing something wrong because I'm also rocking an XT M785 brakeset since (i think) 2012 and I'm still alive.

As for your original question, hub body is the same. Axle and bearings are not. Freehub body, not sure but don't think so. Some seals (have to confirm with hope which one) and pawls are the same.

Mine broke with a straight axle from a Banshee.

Call/email Hope UK given you are ex-US. Their service is really, really good. They know this occurs and have made steel axles specifically for the broke axle issue.

The hub body is the same, axles and bearings are different size regarding the pro2 and pro2 evo - your individual parts will not be transferable. IIRC, you can do a complete swap across, but a wheel rebuild is actually cheaper (been a while since I had to think about that though).

so I can swap all the internals and make it an EVO?
You can definitely do that with the 135/142mm hubshell as that's what they proposed if I wanted to run an XD driver on my ~2009 Pro2 rear hub. You'll get a reply within a day if you email hope or just call them.
