??? That makes no sense.
Something about dying if your body temp gets too high between warm water and a warm wetsuit.
  • Water under 78 degrees - wetsuits are legal
  • 78-84 degrees - wetsuits are optional but wearing one means you start last and can't win awards
  • >84 degrees - wetsuits are not allowed

I won't wear one if "optional" because I like to think I have a chance to podium in my age group.

the tri swims really should be done nude. it would certainly discourage the cheater grabs that occur

Wetsuit tends to be faster, as you sit higher in the water.
*edit. Derp. No wetsuit means you can win.

Wow, that makes total sense. I had no idea, but it seems someone thought this thing through after a couple people crushed it and a few folks died trying.

<edit> The thought of 78 degree water seems amazing right now (Oregon "coast" != beach). I miss warm water.

In the cleavage of the Tetons
Had a wildly successful day at Vail today. Four lift served runs sorta with wifey (scored romance points) followed by the Minturn mile (which is 5 miles, but who is quibbling). Rowdy downhill with about a dozen blowdowns, keeps you on your toes. Got absolutely crushed by our local guests yesterday, he rode from Lions head to the top of Vail in about an hour and met me up there.
