The sad thing is that there are actually studies that show taking to babies like that slows their verbal development (or whatever you call their ability to learn to talk).

I would just be pissed that the "former" employee was staying so long and taking up all that time when those ladies should be working. Nice for people to come back and visit but it should last no longer than 1/2 hour tops!

A little follow-up research suggests that the effects of baby talk on learning are poorly understood. Both sides (helps vs. hinders) make strong statements, but there isn't a ton of support on either side.

Personally I think adults have sucky vocabs because growing up, they watched tv and played video games instead of reading. Reading isn't as action-packed, so people don't want to do it anymore. Our whole society hads dumbed down.

Yup, the evidence of this is obvious .
