How complicated can a dvd drive be?

I got this sony drive. It came with a disc that just has nero, so the drivers must be in the drive. The sata cord is in all the way on both ends (how can you screw that up?) and it opens and closes, so it has power. Any ideas why my computer isn't recognizing it all?

Hardware doesn't have drivers " in the drive". You need to DL and install drivers. That said, all DVD and DC burners can usually use the generic windows drivers besides special functinos (lightscribe for example).

I didn't know that... Thanks for the info! I found a generic cd-rom driver. After unzipping it, there's a sys file and an exe file. Do I need to put them somewhere?

Rediculous... I found an extra sata cable in the garage, so I tried replacing it. It was just a bad sata cable....... Having a working cd drive is crazy. Now I can put on this stack of cd's.
