How Dangerous is Stan's Anyhow?

RenegadeRick

98th percentile on my SAT & all I got was this tin
This AM I reinstalled my Maxxis Ignitors on my Mavic Crossmax XLs and put in some Stan's while doing it.

This was my first time using it and some leaked out in the process. I just used paper towels to cleanup while working and then went and washed up afterwards.

Anyhow I spent about 1 hour doing the installation (one wheel I had to do twice  because I installed the tire backwards... leading to even more mess) and while washing up and washing out that little cup, I read the warning label in teeny tiny print on the bottom of the bottle. It said something like "... in case of contact with skin, wash with soap and water immediately..." So I spent about an hour with the stuff on my skin. Should I be worried?

I think it has ammonia in it which can cause problems if it gets in your eyes or if you have very sensitive skin. I think it also has fiberglass in it which will **** up your eyes and sensitive skin. Keep it away from your genitals and eyes and you will be fine.

I'm with Westy. Most latex has ammonia in it, even if Stan doesn't add any.

You'll be fine. Don't drink it and you won't have a problem.

With homemade latex and ammonia, I had a rim fail. It blew it all over me. It just missed my eyes, and other than being messy, it wasn't an issue. I know I had more ammonia in mine than Stan's uses.

As was mentioned, the latex can be an issue for some people and there is ammonia used as a preservative for latex. FYI, less than 1/10th of 1% is ammonia. No fiberglass though so that isn't a problem.

Having no latex allergy, I get the stuff all over my hands on a regular basis without issue.

Had a fellow at Draper Labs like that until one day the allergy kicked in and he lost most of the skin on his hands and forearms.

Wear gloves and wash your hands when you finish.

No worries, I do wash up all the time just because I don't like having the stuff dry on me.

Now if there were penicillin in there I'd be in real bad shape.
