I used the bearing puller. Really unimpressed, one was too big and the next too small. I managed to spread it out but it didn’t hold well. Finally I got it to hold long enough to jerk that hammer long enough to pop it out

Well done, I would have looked at it, thought it was a shit design and cut the frame up with a hacksaw.

Hmmm...that shit is some kind of wretched grease that's been through hell and back. Comes up pretty easily with a little pblaster and elbow grease. Will try a stiffer sponge or steel wool and some acetone if I can find it.

I have some "marine anti-seize compound" like that. Turns into solid glue quite quickly.
