without damaging it? i am getting my yeti frame and the 1.5 headset that is in there is for a 1.5 fork. i will need to remove the one that is currently on my bike and install it on the yeti, but how do i get it out without ruining it?
Do they even make that tool for 1.5"? And how do you make one with PVC? What about using three identical flat head screwdrivers set up tee-pee style, and whacking them all at once with a big mallet? You could even throw a rag in there to limit scratching.
all you have to do is flare out the flanges a bit and it will od hte job fine...I personally just went to the hardware store and got a piece of excess PVC for free and use that with a hammer.....D
i think Park might make one (a bigger version of the one Wumpus posted), but at the time, my shop used a screw driver. haphazardly, at that. i wasn't too impressed...well, kinda upset, to be honest. took them quite a while, too. i had to force a "thank you" as i was walking out.
Definitely the park tool/PVC. Just have a towel or something underneath to catch it so it doesn't go clanging around.
If you take your time, you won't have any problem with the screwdriver thing either. I would try to use a narrow headed screwdriver so the whole blade is on the cup and not just the corners.
i was always told to cut it. but...getting a piece that has the right OD sounds like a great idea. putting the pressure all around the cup. there's gotta be something wrong with that...seems too simple.
well, apparently a friend of mine that works at a shop has modified his shops headset tool to be able to remove the oversized ones. we'll hope that will work.

If you use the single screwdriver method it'll work fine if you BE GENTLE and take your time, everything will be good and usable afterwords. BUT, if the headset is in there really tight you'll need one of the pipe-style tools.
