How do you clean your bearings?

As the title states, I'm in the process of rebuilding my bike and I want to know the best method for getting pivot bearings nice and clean.

Right now they are covered in mud and grease.

I could just wipe them off with a rag, but won't that just push the dirt into the bearing further?

I can also soak them in degreaser, but wouldn't that remove the grease around the ball bearings themselves?

What do you experts out there do to keep your bearings spinning free and smooth?

TIA

high pressure hose directly at the bearing.

that should do that trick!
Only if you want to push out all the grease and rust the bearings in a month.

There is no trick to cleaning sealed pivot bearings, just to minimize the wear.

You can clean the outside of the bearings, but if you feel the need to push out the bearings, you might as well replace them with new.

and yes youre right...if youre going to press/push them out, then you might as well buy new ones for cheap

how about carefully prying off the seal with a pick and then repacking them after a soak in some solvent?

that's a question as much as a suggestion so if anyone has reasons this is a stupid idea let me know (I've done it on derailleur cartridge bearings before).

You will deform the plastic seal.

If your bearings are toasted, they're toasted. You could order just those bearings from Enduro instead of buying a complete kit.
