How do you know if your wrist is broken?

I slipped in the mechanics area tonight and slammed into a truing stand. My wrist won't bend right and theres a black and blue large lump on the underside. It doens't exactly hurt unless I try to bend it with my other hand..

Any suggestions?

Go have it checked out. I busted mine in a race several years back, got all swollen hurt like hell then after riding 4 hrs in the car with ice on it the swelling was down a bit and didnt hurt soo much so i said screw it. After a few weeks it didnt hurt too bad. A year later I was taking an in-class english essay exam and severe pains started shooting up my arm, went to the doc and found out I had pretty much added a bone to my right wrist. It to this day has yet to fuse to anything and I can feel it grind when i move my wrist. You dont want an arthritic wrist like mine soon will be!

I broke mine awhile back (jr high). I walked around with it all swollen up for two or three days before I went to the Dr.

You should get it checked out. You may have fractured one of the smaller bones. Or you make just have a contusion. In any case, get it looked at.

The two times I broke mine any pressure on it caused extreme pain--like pulling on the shifter in the car, though, pushing didn't hurt. If you can't bend it, then I would have it looked at. Fractures are extremely painful.

You go to the doc and get an xray. It's cheap, don't worry. I have broken my wrists 4 times. Longest time out was for three months. The other times I was good to go in a month. Keep it iced and elevated.

Uh, now I suppose if I had friends, uhhhhh but I don't, uh they would have said something like, "Hey George! You should go to a hospital, or see a doctor; that looks pretty serious." Uh but, I don't have any friends, and um as it is I'm fascinated by the process here! I mean, a couple of days ago it changed from um reddy-purpley to sorta greeny-purpley and uh, the foot started swelling up and then get this, a couple of days ago the whole uh leg went numb, right below the knee. Hey! Check this out! [sticks a fork in leg] I can stick a fork in it and I don't feel a thing! Now that is interesting!!Am I wrong?! Uh. I don't know, Uhhhhhh I mean maybe I should cut it off. But, I'm not sure.

I broke mine. Wasn't a big deal. I know that it's an area of the body that doesn't get a lot of circulation and sometimes requires surgery to fix, but I was lucky. Plus, I don't think it's that big a deal. Enlighten me.

Its a huge deal. If yours healed without incident then you are the first person I have ever heard of that has been that lucky. Everyone else I know, including me, has suffered with a long recovery and the fact that I don't think it ever does really heal right. I got my orginially taken care of in the emergency room. When it didn't seem to get better, I went to a hand specialist. He said that it was really too late to do anything but that he would have recommended I have it operated on to fix it right.

Arsbars get to the doctor and get an x-ray. If they mention the word scaphoid see a specialist.

i messed mine up and thought it was ok..went riding for the rest of the day and ended up having a hairline frature cause i kept landing on it for 3 hours ......if i wouldve stayed off it, it would be ok and i wouldnt have a gimp hand....trust me...its not fun not being able to bend it where it supposed to go...and mine didnt even swell up bad or turn colors...get it checked asap..
