After spending a night in the Wayne County Jail on an unrelated criminal case, Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick was charged with two counts of felonious assault today for allegedly shoving a sheriff’s deputy into his partner last month.

He begins first full day of 4-month sentence in his solitary cell with cereal in a cardboard bowl.

DETROIT -- His day officially began 2 1/2 hours before sunrise Wednesday, when the lights went on and a deputy slid a food tray through a slot in his steel cell door.

It was a humble breakfast: cereal in a cardboard bowl, a raisin bagel with jelly, and orange juice.
