I can't believe he broke his hip-bone into 50 pieces. Hard to believe he will ever ride again but it's great to see him in good spirits and commited.

What is spannering?

As in did he do his own bike servicing or did he have a mechanic. If he had a mechanic and his hose came detached or whatever I feel sorry for the mechanic - it would be a horrible position to be in.

Of course he has a mechanic. I read somwhere that a rock hit his hose and ripped it apart but his reaction towards the question in the vid was weird.

It don't has to be the fault of the mechanic. I mean apparently gwins both brakes failed at the same time. Hard to believe but then why whould they make things up.

I finished many vertical feet in the alps and never had a catastrophic fail of a brake but I think it could happen if seals blow suddenly etc.

Then how'd he make it to the end of the track in one piece!!? I'm pretty sure that lightweight frame cracked somewhere, so he just rode it out.. and now no one is the wiser

It's odd how Gracia finds fault in everyone else's "incompetence "surrounding his fall, transport, track, but you don't get an answer to if he has an incompetent mechanic or sponso regarding what went wrong with his bike.

Really?clearing an additional 10ft out off the side of the track?Youre lucky to get single track put in in the first place.I understand having a safe track, but this is DH .I dont think anyone here needs any further explanation.

I have a French friend and he tends to do this alot, too.Im wondering if it's a cultural thing

I don't race worldcups but safety measures could be better. I'm not saying that cleaning out the sides of the track should be done but basic things like competent track marshals would be good. I experience it frequently that they don't have their **** together when they should wave the yellow flag when a rider goes down in training.

Thankfully I didn't need them till now and I think in germany it's ok for most races. Even at small local races I see a decent amount of paramedics but I don't know about their competence.

It's just situations like in training at dirtmasters where there was a rooty off camber section where the riders had to go up and around a tree coming into the woods from a relatively open highspeed section.

Almost nobody made it, everyone was crashing into the tree or before it and rider after rider crashed into the crowd of crashed riders. and it took like half an hour till officials showed up to sort things out. It just appears that something that could be easly avoided has to happen first before you get a reaction from officials.

Most tracks on the world cup have a semi cleared zone alone the outside. If they don't, they certainly do have have stumps and cut down trees tossed just the other side of the tape. The area he went down in was one where there was obviously going to be accidents so tossing sharp, dead brush there wasn't a great idea. Clearly this isn't what hurt him, but the stump/log he landed on did...

Fair enough.Just didn't like him calling everyone around him incompetent.Seems arrogant
He builds tracks and he has a wealth of racing experience so I guess he knows how a safe track should look like. Why is someone complaining a track isn't properly safe arrogant? The whole idea that you can't critique unsafe track because it's hardcore dh 8000V is absurd.

He also complains about the medical transport but if you never had a bad experience with doctors or paramedics you must have never been injured.

I've been hurt more than the average DHr ever has.Between moto and DH and my age ,I've got the injury thing covered.Ive never really had an experience where I'd call somebody,or several people incompetent.Maybe it's a French interpretation thing and he's using a word that dosent quite strike the exact meaning that he trying communicate.
To race Dh,get hurt, and then call everyone and everything around you incompetant seems a little strong. Is it possible that his mechanic made some sort of error, his line choice was not the best, the track guys didn't see where his accident would be a probability, the emts did there job and his perception was skewed by his state and pain level and his doctor was overworked and was awake for 48 hrs cuz he works under a socialist paradigm and there aren't enough doctors for the amount of "free"medical services required to perform properly?I dunno.Everyone else being incompetent just sounds too easy.I suppose he just could have had a real **** day and absolutly everyone around his personal space that day was absolutley negligent. It is possible.

...But,kudos for kickin ass on that Enduro ...that's amazing

So you say you were NEVER on a track were the builders were incompetent? You were never in a hospital where the transport and the doctors were incompetent? Either you live in a magical fairly land or you were not injured enough. It really bugs me there is a growing opinion that you should never complain about anything in dh even when people are doing irrationally stupid things. I've seen many tracks build by incompetent people and I've been to hospitals with very incompetent doctors and I'm only 25. Not saying it was the case here but since we both share the same amount of info about the fact why do you dispute his opinion?

But hey nice one for sticking it to the Frenchies and socialised medicine. USA hey?

Still it's good he's recovering. What's strange is I saw his doppelganger yesterday. The guy was even French.

Lol, my wealthy Father moved to france in his declining years at least in part because of the medical program(s).

It's pretty funny how far people will go to s**t on these systems. If the pure capitalists acknowledge that margins are ridiculous (across the board and fantastically so in medicine(not insurance!!)) we can get back on track. Greed will slow the process tremendously.

Change is hard.

No.never been on a track or in a hospital where I'd call someone incompetent.Didn't realize I lived in a fairyland.....(this is it??)I've had people that maybe overlooked something,or in MY OPINION ,had a lip to a jump that shoulda been "massaged".

I think I goes to a greater attitude of younger people (or socialists) in general. That everyone around them is responsible to make them happy and lifes negatives are always expected to be dealt with and fixed with someone elses time and money...But at the same time the positive, the glory,-that's all expected just because you showed up.

...but,but,but I went to college,where's my job?!--Wait,I want to start in middle management .I want FREE healthcare.I want 35hr work week,I want a month vacation,I want,I want.

Yeah it's a little bit of a side rant, but Ive never blamed my lack of high income ,broken bones and torn ligaments and arthritis on decisions I've made to keep doing dumb sports and being a high school dropout.

Are you serious about your rich dad moving to a country to take advantage of other peoples labor, paid in their taxes in order to get free healthcare?Cuz,I have no words for that one.

You crack me up. What are you ranting about and when was the last time you took your crazy pills?

To put it into old people (or capitalist) terms - everyone is responsible to do a good job. If they didn't (doctors or builders) than they are incompetent. Are you implying there are no incompetent people in the world and it's a term mr. Stalin came up with? In your jolly good world everyone does their job and is a perfect worker? I wish my workplace looked like it.

btw. I have free healthcare, didn't finish my engineering school (and I'm not sure If I will) and I still have an awesome job(started in middle managment) which I got from the street without any unpaid interning. Suck it.

I am 45, not a socialist, never had any form of direct benefit (other than police, highways, military, legal/court system, infrastructure in general). Chose to leave my last FT job, not on any form of unemployment compensation, doing my thing and paying my bills unassisted.

I expect people to do what they're supposed to. To provide value and be reasonable; not to give their very least and ask for premium compensation - which has become the norm for many if not most businesses, and most certainly medicine.

Was in the ER 2 weeks ago, paying my own way, dealing with incompetent resident at a premier hospital.

Mediocrity is the high mark, and incompetence is quite common -- as those persons 'providing' seem to put their entitlement for compensation above their Hippocratic oath, or just plain doing a good job.

Yes, my rich dad, who paid very large additional taxes to the French government to avail himself of their excellent system - it wasn't less expensive than the US, not a ploy for a freebie, just much better provision and management. He was also the director of Fontainbleu for some time, giving quite a bit to the French peoples as well. Certainly health care wasn't a deciding factor, but illuminates how ignorantly maligned these 'terrible' systems are.

But way to go for hopping right onto the wagon of assumptions. Like most critics, you appear unflinchingly capitalist/idealist. Ideological extremes don't play well in democracies -- but we're soaking in it right now.

No,I'm neither unflinching or an idealist.Although it may seem that way within the sidetrack I got us off into. There's plenty of f'd up crap we've gotten ourselves into in the name of capitalism.Any true observer would have to acknowledge that it's mostly due to government interfering in the process in order to maintain and gain power at any price, hand in hand with corrupt big business and wall st.If the "rules" where truley enforced,Goldman Sachs wouldn't have anyone left that wasnt in jail but the cleaning crew and Obama/Bush wouldve had to consulte their cabinet within the country club prison walls.
I still have issue with the "incompetence"of apparently everyone.I must be really really lucky.I've never been a "half full"kinda guy.But you guys make me look like Tony Robbins.

When I was in thr hospital in Whistler, the doc examined my leg then left, then his resident came in and did the exact same thing, then he came back with the resident to show him what he observed.

On my bill I got two doc charges for exam. The on-call physician and the resident. I was pissed to get 2- $300 charges for wiggling my leg, one especially from the understudy.

That's not incompetence, that's bullsh1t!But that's part of the point I wasn't making.

Impressed with your response; expected an attack, sorry if it gets a little 'fluffy'

I generally agree with your assessment, and I know that entitlements are the issue -- but not only the poor or system abusers, but everyone in terms of what they expect.
