how tall are you and how much do you weigh? also, browse used bikes because you can get a much better bike for cheaper. i know that theres a fairly nice iron horse g-spot in the buy and sell right now for 650. definitly a better buy than an x1 or the bighit grom (both of which have cross country forks). stay awqay from the bighit grom/spec. right now theres on in the shop i work at where the swingarm cracked totally off at a weld near the pivot. keep in mind a 6th grader owns this bike. and hes ~120 lbs. or try a hardtail. many can hang with the big bikes if the rider is capable and the components are half decent. also a hardtail will help you to build technique on jumps/drops and to pick smoother lines down a course/run. if your not racing then who cares which line is fastest? as long at it flows and is fun speed doesnt really matter.

just some things to think about. oh and ignore the ones who flak you for being a newbie (just dont ask stupid questions and use the search function often and i think you'll be safe)

I'm really gonna have to go witht he internet tough guy on this, get a hardtail man. For $800 you can get a decent bike that way, that will be able to do anything you can throw at it.

There are some decently specced Steel and even aluminum HTs available at that price point.

yah, a full susser may sound cool and be appealing, but in that price range you dont get much more than crap
and on that iron horse, it looks like a great deal, but based on the fact that you asked about the big hit grom (which is for smaller riders) and that IH is a large, its probably gonna be way to big for you

thanks for the help.and i am a real small guy im only like 5ft and ony weigh like 90pds.but the reason why i want a full suspension bike is cause i do some really big jumps and drops.and im tired of bustin my nuts on my seat.and i probably for how little i can pay im thinkin about the specialized p.1 and p.2 hardtails.also the giant stp2.any suggestions on those. but thanks for the help thatyou have already given me.and i will look at used bikes.

for your price range i would defietly look for somethin used, i bought a new 03 haro escape 8.1 about 1.5 years ago, and have been really unhappy with it, i have since spent over $500 on it it still has super crappy breakes, and wheels. look for a bike with a decent fork, cranks, wheels and brakes, its worth getting a used ride in decent condition just to be able to have good components.

dude, if you hit your nuts on the seat, it's not b/c you need suspension, it's because you need to either learn how to wheelie drop (for flat stuff) or to soak it up better w/ your arms and legs if there's a tranny present.

The Spec. P bikes are pretty good, go for it.

Non watered down version of quote

dude, if you hit your nuts on the seat, it's not b/c you need suspension, it's because you got less style and smoothness than a crusty trucker in a disco suit 3 sizes too small at a blacktie dinner

nice. the p.2 is a great bike, sans fork. ride it as is for a while then if you really want to get more aggressive without worrying about breaking the fork, i would suggest upgrading it. i think something like a sherman flick would go perfectly with that bike.

iv ridden my friends grom, he had it for 8 or 9 months and every thing kept crapping out and for some reason the companies just kept warrantying it, i think he went through 4 mozo forks it was retarded, go used or hardtail, thats what i told the kid before he bought a bike and like escape artist said he was kicking himself... REALLY hard and by the way: dude, if you hit your nuts on the seat, it's not b/c you need suspension, it's because you got less style and smoothness than a crusty trucker in a disco suit 3 sizes too small at a blacktie dinner. awsome

not better. its more of an xc bike despite the aggro frame look. i can almost garuntee that once on the p.2, you wont notice the weight.

Either bust your nuts on the seat of a quality HT, or break your face open when your cheap-ass F/S bike blows up on you...

(or find a quality used F/S...small BigHit or something...)
