How long do DH frame headtubes get??

I'm cutting down my fork and wondering how short I can go to make sure that the fork will work with any other frame in the future, assuming that it's used with an integrated stem (and who wouldn't?).

Adding room for crowns and headsets is easy, but any insights on how long headtubes can get?

With a 5" headtube, regular headset (King), 888 upper crown and integrated stem, I have always been safe with 7.5"-7.75". That leaves about 3/8" of steerer exposed.

^^^ amen on that, I always cut my forks extra long for that reason and that reason alone... figure HS spacers are a buck a piece, but new crown/steerer or crown/steerer/stancions are 100+
