Ok, let's throw another variable into here. Let's leave the terrain as average. I find it hard to ride past 3 hours, but I'm on a 36lb bike. How many lbs are the bike you guys are using to ride 3 hours > more. I'm not talking about downhill either.

27 lb chameleon, im not saying im blazing but occasionally we will get a quite long ride going (past 3 hours) that is when I start seeing all kinds of funny things in the woods due to exhaustion like nymphs and fairies…things of that nature. It sucks.

30lbs w/ DH tires (only 2.35s) which add more rotational mass. One of my riding partner's bike is at 42 and usually smokes me up the hills. :mumble: He usually changes wheels which puts him at 36 for long rides.

So many variables. I'd rather talk miles. I like to do 15, but sometimes less suits. Depend on where I'm riding, who I'm riding (waiting for) with, terrain. etc. Several times I've done 16 miles of very tech trail rding in under 2 hours, with breaks.

When I ride it's an all day affair because of transportation (ride to train, ride train, ride car, ride, repeat). Takes some time, but I don't plan anything until the evening if I'm riding that day.

As others have stated: it depends. On a mtn bike it really depends on where I'm riding.

On the road, it also depends. If after work, an hour or so ride is nice. On the weekend, road rides are usually 6-8 hrs as I tend to wander with no set-in-stone route. :)

33 lbs. With FLATS. (My climbing=sucks) :dead:

Riding in the Berkshires, Nam, White Mountains, Upton, Hodges, Harold Parker, Maine, etc.
Not that bad really, mine is 40+ with flats, 7 inches rear and 6 front, with DH tires, so you might say my climbing really does suck. I don't know how long my rides are because I mostly DH and dirt jump these days, but I did a week in utah in june we did a few 30 mile days but often with a lunch break in the middle. I guess I have done a few hours in pisgah on my sgs before. I have the walk some of the singletrack climbs though. I do long fire road climbs though. Typically for me though, a good day is 3+ runs.

That kinda sucks - guess you don't ride much after work then huh?

Any chance to get on my bike is a "good ride".

Unless something happened that I couldn't ride again for a while, i.e. bad crash.

I usually get to ride for an hour or so on weekdays, and then longer on my Sunday morning church (singletrack!) rides for 3+ hours.

Yeah, kinda sucks. I used to ride to work and I considered moving much further away just to get some 'commute' time. I suppose I could ride at night in the city, and I've done it before, but it's not the same as the trails. I'm just happy I can be a mt biker and still live in Manhattan and vise versa.

When I go full freelance I'll get to ride plenty more. Either that or I'll be even busier and that wouldn't be a bad thing if it was all for me. I'd be rich, rich I tell you! :)

well it really depends for me, if i'm just out on the usual trails 2 hours tends to be a good ride. or if i'm on my own an hour is a good ride. if i'm out DH'ing then i can be on the hill for 8 hours or more on a good day with tons of runs and no shuttles so more than half the time is spend hiking back up.
but my avarage ride takes about 2 hours.

i prefer to judge a ride by amount and quality of riding than how long i'm out for.
