Hey guys,

I figured while I am not on the DH bike I should look into getting the shock serviced. I think it has a problem with the ending part of the stroke. It use to make kind of a "thud" as it came up but throughout the rest of the stroke it was fine. Well now it has gotten worse to the point where I won't ride it.

I was just curious from other riders of the 5th coil shock that have sent it in for service typically what's their charge? Turn around time? I live in so cal so that shouldn't be a problem shipping wise (1 day ground anywhere so cal).

Just curious what they do, how much it costs etc....

Please let me know

I think the turn around on rebuilds is less than a week right now. At least thats what a few guys that I know have had in the past few weeks. Give them a call and they will give you a no BS answer.

mine was 2 weeks out and back with ground shipping. not too bad - i think it was only a few days in house...came back better than ever. Of course, it was warranty service on an air shock.

Good to know service isn't too long.

Do you think they'd switch or swap springs? I have a 400lbs one and need a 450lbs one (ti perferably). I am just wondering if they'll do something like this since they have to take my old one off anyway.

For my M1 it says a 450lbs spring is good for riders weighing 200-240. I'll most likley be in that weight range my entire life so mise well get the right spring rate. I have a steel 550lbs on it right now and it's a bit stiff.

Just wondering if they are "nice" enough to do that. I'll have to call them in the morning and find out :)

Well I am calling them tomorrow

I will ask if they can do some sort of exchange on the Ti spring deal (if not maybe the steel spring deal) because man I don't want to fork out another $150+ for another spring. I hope that they have one laying around they'd sell cheap or just flat out trade.

I'll keep everyone posted what happens.

Well it's on it's way to Progressive. I was quoted $51 for labor + parts + shipping. They said it's typically $75-85 when completed. Not too bad considering I think the previous owner has done nothing to it.

I also asked them about swapping my Ti spring. They shot down that pretty quickly but when I said there's a Steel coil on there already they said they could stright up swap it. Hell it's new they should :)

Just keeping everyone informed on this. They said 48-72hrs for turn around, hell I might even have it back by this weekend (maybe :O)

I just received my 5th air, yesterday, back from warranty repair. They did a good job.

Quoted me 48hr turn around. Took 14 days from the Monday I sent out to the Monday I received.

They will match whatever shipping you use on a warranty return... I shipped 2day both ways.

same experience as everybody else. Quoted 72 hours took 14 days, call them for a tracking number because they won't call you. All in all aside from lying about how long they'll hold your shock hostage they're pretty good. I sent my shock out without mentioning that it was just over a year old and they didn't charge me, of course it was not working properly, I didn't just send it in for mantinance.

I know about the lag/delay times that they can have. Even though I was told 48-72hrs turnaround, maybe warrenty items differ from regular paying people asking for maintence?

I asked about getting a different spring for it. I have to call them as well and let them know that I need to get more of those aluminum spacers that fit around the pin iteself that goes into the shock. I also "think" I need a new pin in the lower mount because it moved with my fingers pushing on it and the DU bearings were maybe 10hrs on them tops. They shouldn't move that easy if everything is a tight press fit application.

I'll probably call them tomorrow and make sure that they can do this and to just charge me for it. It's no big deal. I know they got it because my UPS tracking # shows that it was recieved. That way there is no mix up at all.

Hopefully they'll get it back in a timely manor though.

I'm getting ready to play guinea pig for this very question, as my 5th has developed a completely undamped initial stroke (about the first 3/4" of the stroke just disappears, then suddenly it feels damped like normal)...I think it's just low on oil...Otherwise, the shock's operation has been flawless over the last 10 months or so...The bushings on the otherhand
Thankfully BETD makes a nice replacement kit for the bushings and spacers...

I'll keep ya posted on how long it takes...

At the large races, the Progressive crew there will rebuild the shocks for free. I had mine rebuilt and resprung in 45 min at Sea Otter.
