I'm looking at buying a new house about 30 minutes outside of town. Alot of the houses have some acreage and it made me wonder how many acres I would need if I wanted to create my own privates trail to play on.

I have some young sons so the priority would be for them to have a fun place to moutain bike and hone their beginner skills. My oldest son is only 8 now.

i dont think there is really a "minimum". i have about 3 acres of woods and for what i have planned that should be plenty.

Personally, I think it's more about how well you plan out your trails and how well they play on the terrain rather than how many acres you have to work with. I would think you could easily plan a solid loop on 3 acres. We have 11.7 acres and if we really packed our switchbacks together we could have a hell of a loop with at least 5 miles of trail, but the terrain doesn't lend well to that tight a trail so we don't have nearly that much right now.
