There's enough to dislike about this woman without having to worry about this inconsequential crap.
Just adds to the credibility problem she's already got. Her whole selling point is that she's "Joe Sixpack" or "Hockey Mom" or some other such BS. For those who somehow weren't able to see through that crap from the first time she opened her stupid face, this should cast a little more doubt on the character she's tried to create.

No you're probably right n8. McCain could jump up on the table during a debate and jerk off on the moderator and these clowns would be saying "Ooh, he's such a maverick."
Whatever it takes to make sure the "fake Americans" don't get in charge.

obama's soicalist ideas concern me, but the people he surrounds himself with and the fact that he will have a will lap dog congress concerns me a hellavalot more. But, it looks like he will certainly be the next president, so I will vote out our democrat Congressional delegation.

C'mon, now! this whole bailout thing is 'wicked socialist' in and of itself! But that's old GOP newz: privatize the profits and socialize the losses.

I wont deny that. When McCain actually was (or at least made himself appear to be) a moderate, he appealed to me.
When he immediately chucked aside all his credibility by taking a hard right and foresaking the ideals he supposedly stood for, I jumped off the bandwagon. And the Palin nomination sealed it. Im sure there are plenty other folks who feel the same way, and that's why he's in all likelihood going to lose an election he could've probably handily won if he had an ounce of integrity.

Edit: I think probably deep down McCain is still a good man, but simply put, bigtime politics made a monster out of him. Power corrupts?

He took a hard right so he could win the rep nomination. Of course if he hadn't he wouldn't have gotten the nomination. The beauty of the two party system. Rumour is he really wanted Leibermen as his VP.

How could he do any worse then what GWB with a lapdog congress for the first 6 years?

I think we hit bottom, the WORST he could do is dig sideways.

time for the Reagan conservative part of the GOP to cut off the RINO's... or abandon the sinking ship and move to the Libertarian party..
So it was the RINOs who were in control between 2000 and 2006 and drove the party / country into the ground not the neo-conservative Reagan Republicans... The "true Republicans" fought like hell against increased government spending, pork, a "bridge to nowhere", intervening in world affairs, wasteful spending, etc.?

Gimme a freakin' break. After 1992 the Republicans slowly increased their grip on power throughout the federal government, and in 2000 they got the ultimate prize, controlling congress *and* the presidency (for a short time anyway). Through 2006 they gained even more power, and look what they did with it. They got greedy, tried to govern from the base, and ended up with a brand that "if it were dog food it would get pulled off the shelves."

So they got smacked (hard) in 2006, and they learned NOTHING from it. They're still preaching the "tax cuts for the rich" instead of balanced budgets, ending corruption, ending wasteful spending, fiscal responsibility, etc. McCain getting up and giving a speech about taking a hatchet to the budget means nothing.

Republicans need to STFD and STHU after this thumping. They need to learn that people don't care about wedge issues like abortion or gay marriage or guns, we want to debate real issues about the real direction of this country, about deficits, about the economy, about middle-class issues, about our standing in the world. Maybe a 2 year time-out with them losing complete power this election will be enough since they didn't learn their lesson in '06.

"With all of the important issues facing the country right now, it’s remarkable that we’re spending time talking about pantsuits and blouses," said spokeswoman Tracey Schmitt. "It was always the intent that the clothing go to a charitable purpose after the campaign."

Not to get too far off topic, considering I saw words like "Socialist" and "gay marriage, I don't know how you figure $150k in clothes is "pretty cheap".

She had clothes to begin with. I figured it out: assuming the RNC bought her a different outfit every day, they spent $2,140 on each outfit.

An additional $4,902.45 was spent in early September at Atelier, a high-class shopping destination for men.
I bet Todd looks hot now.

I for one can't think of a better way to spend republican party dollars. Less money for effective campaigning. Shop, baby, shop.

Oh no she didn't!

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081024/ap_on_el_pr/palin_clothing

"It's kind of painful to be criticized for something when all the facts are not out there and are not reported," Palin said.
On the other side of the coin:
Also on Thursday, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics, a private watchdog group in Washington, filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission against Palin, the Republican National Committee and several political operatives alleging that the purchase of clothing for Palin and her family violates Federal Election Campaign Act.

The law prohibits a candidate for federal office from converting campaign funds to personal use. CREW notes that FEC regulations make clear the prohibition applies to clothing but also provide that donations by candidates to charity are not for personal use. CREW argued this exception might apply to Palin's clothes but doesn't appear to apply to clothes for her family.

I don't know why she thinks her lies go over with the public.

If she said:

My appearance is held to a higher standard because I am a woman, I will reimburse the RNC for my hairstyling, and I will donate the clothes after the election.

I bet this would go over with press and the public.

But just like Troopergate, by lying, it makes it into an issue.

I think the Republicans have to learn that Bush has all kinds of powers, including pardons and to be able to declare war, to cover up his lies.

Everyone else is subject to the laws of the land.

What I find most entertaining is that there are these things such as receipts that show money was spent. The RNC has to report this crap, so either she spent it, someone spent it and said it was for her, or someone has skimmed a little cash from the "petty cash" drawer and made fake docs to support the missing cash.

"Do you remember the conversations that took place about her, say superficial things that they don't talk about with men, her wardrobe and her hairstyles, all of that? That's a bit of that double standard."
If I recall, Hillary bought her own crap. It might have also been expensive, but I don't think she was paying for it with contributor dollars.

It's a good thing she can see Russia to make up the difference.

An acclaimed celebrity makeup artist for Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin collected more money from John McCain's campaign than his foreign policy adviser.

Amy Strozzi, who works on the reality show "So You Think You Can Dance" and has been Palin's traveling stylist, was paid $22,800, according to campaign finance reports for the first two weeks in October. In contrast, McCain's foreign policy adviser, Randy Scheunemann, was paid $12,500, the report showed.
