How much front travel is too much travel???

if someone made a strong enough 5" frame and 5" DC to handle what my Mono and older style Monster T could handle. that would be the perfect bike for me. i honestly feel anything more is totally un-needed. i only have a bike with more than that because of it's strength........

I was meaning rougher courses. I can ride the big rocks better with my big travel bike than my 6" bike.
Ah ok. Depends how big though... there's a track near me I reckon you'd say "these rocks are big enough that I want less travel" ;)

(I'm just being a nitpicker now :p)

i dont think the travels gonna increase any more i think that companies are gonna work more on making bikes pedal better than have insane amounts of travel. the day of the huuge travel huck bike is over imo
Everyone has always said that ever since suspension was introduced, but travel hasn't stopped increasing really. 8" DH bikes are getting to be on the short side now.

Theres no such thing as overkill on dh bikes...

haha Nah I think its more on the riders skill level, seeing a kid who sucks ass with a bike with 9" of travel that his parents bought him is just ****ed up...

Take Bender for example, he puts his 12" or whatever super monster t to work all the time...wonder if hes ever bottomed out one of those

True, but there are others who go as big with less travel, and are still smoother. For example, Klassen landed a 46' drop on an Ellsworth Dare with Dorado's (9" back, 7" front).
