Tailpipe fell/rusted off so I took the car (1999 Nissan Sentra) to the goodyear place.

They quoted me $417.25 to repair it. WTF?

Said the muffler was rusted on the bottom/some sh1t so the whole thing needs to be replaced. Cost for muffler is $370 or something, then installation fee ontop of that.

Last time I got a muffler installed it was under $200.00

don't answer a question with a question!

where should I go? :D (google wasn't giving me any good options). My normal car guy doesn't do exhaust. goodyear was close to me so I checked 'em out.

Honestly, I am having a hard time finding an exhaust place in WEST SEATTLE area.

Sounds like more than the muffler is bad. It's cheap to replace only the muffler, but if the piping has to be replace it costs more as most shops have to bend the tubing to fit.

In response to the question as it's posed in the title, that depends a lot on if it's, say, a Zonda or a Civic.

Depends if it's a cat back system and what they are replacing. But, for just a muffler replacement, you're looking at about $100 for a muffler (or less), unless it's OEM (don't bother). Install should be less than $100 as it's less than 1 hr of work.

So, a good shop will charge you about $200.

Around here all the '99 Sentras are rocking 304 stainless fart cans.
I'd go that route as, when combined with body-color spray painted hubcaps, resale will increase tremendously and you'll get more bitches.

Go to a muffler/exhaust shop. In all seriousness, an aftermarket exhaust might be the way to go. It's and option. But, to do just a muffler, cut out and re-weld in, around $200 sounds right. If it's bolt on, you could do it yourself. I believe on that car, the muffler is right at the bumper. The whole back part of the exhaust should just unbolt. Stoney might be able to even do it.
