Guys,

I just bought an uncut '05 Z1 FR  and I am putting it on my '01 Bullit. With my Stem stack height and headset I need to leave at least 8.5-8.75" of steerer tube. Is there any reason to run a little longer tube and add some spacers or should I just cut it to fit the stem/headset? I am running my '02 Super T steerer with no spacers at this point. Thanks.

I'd say leave about 10-20mm extra on it, at least, until you're absolutely sure your position is comfortable. You might find the fork height to be taller/shorter than current, and it'll affect the geometry and position, thus needing a new stem or some spacers to correct it.
Put it this way, an inch extra of steerer might look a bit silly to some people, but if anyone were to actually criticise you for it, kick them in the head and tell them to buy an entire new steerer+crown+stanchion assembly when you find that you need a bit more height if/when you change headset/stem/spacer height. You can always take a bit off in a months time...

Yeah leave a little extra. Cut 'em about 5 - 10mm above the stem, that way you know you're getting the full stem clamp area and have a little room to work with if you get another stem or frame. If you're going to smack the top of your stem, it's gonna happen whether you've got a little bit extra or not. Oh and measure twice before you cut...
