Yesterday a friend who I normally don't talk politics with asked me whom I was voting for. I told him and he got upset and told me I should just stay home on Election Day. I found this amusing and probed him on why his candidate was so great. He could not answer with any facts and stormed away all pissed off.

Then there was a guy at my LBS who was telling me about a confrontation he had at a stoplight because the person next to him had the "wrong" political bumper sticker on their car. What is wrong with people? Is this normal? Do you avoid people or actually hate people who have a different point of view?

Yeah, it's strange. If you believe in democracy you should accept that others may not feel as you do and you may in fact be in a minority. (Of course being in a minority does not make you wrong necessarily.)

If people cannot deal with that peacefully then they are the ones who should stay home. A lot.

Well, one has to practice a little common sense. You do not drive around Dallas, TX with a Fvck the Cowboys sticker on your Volvo without risking some kind of confrontation.

Who do you feel has the bigger problem, the guy with the bumper sticker or the guy who reacts to it?

People that get upset over a bumper sticker on somebody else's car have a serious f8cking problem......

A girl I work with was down in Charleston for the weekend with her husband and she had a Bush '04 sticker on her car. They went out walking around the city and when they got back to the car the sticker was ripped off and a note was left in it's place saying, "it's people like you that f8ck this country up." Uh, settle down Beavis.

Here's the political sticker I run on my truck........I know it pisses people off but that's the whole point!! If somebody ripped it off then my mission is simply accomplished ;)

...and you would be incorrect sir!

Political yard signage is the utmost in bad taste and would clash with my extensive collection of garden gnomes and pink plastic flamingos...

You are entitled to your opinion, as is anyone. Assaulting someone because of an opinion is not reasonable.
What if they are of the opinion that they'd like to be assaulted?

Oddly enough in the UK you could be prosecuted for hurting someone who asked you to do so and enjoyed it. It has happened.

I have heard of some fairly wacky US laws in some states though.
My half sister, a brit, was just telling me about wacky Brit laws. It seems it is legal to shoot a Frenchmen in the back with a bow and arrow? :p And males over 15 years old must practice archery every Sunday?

Don't know how true it is but I like the legal Frenchy murder thing.

Frenchies - yes, but you must wear green and stand on one leg whilst drawing the bow.

And it's males between 14 and 16 must practise arrow-catching every Sunday.

Wasn't there a case in the UK recently where a man was tried for killing and eating another man who had requested that he be killed and eaten? Seriously - I think I remember reading about it 6 months ago - and could swear that the "murderer" was not sentenced to more than a few months in prison - given the circumstances.

Speaking of strange laws in the UK..

Looks like a good way to control the population. I think we should try something similar with retiree's to help with the Social Security problems.

I do take it somewhat seriously. When someon says they're not voting for candidate "X" but for candidate "W", I have to wonder how in the hell they could agree with anything candidate "W" says or does. I just don't understand how you could vote for someone like that, and I think less of the person.

when people bring up politics, I'm reminded of a line from a great movie.

I once punched a girl in the face for calling me a republican. Cold cocked her right in the eyeball.

While i think all people who disagree with me are in fact quite dumb i also understand i am in fact dumb as well. So embracing that fact helps minimalize any conflict due to talking politics.

The only time I get Irritated is when some people think they deserve an opinion on politics within the United States when they arent even U.S. Citizens and don't live here. If you are a U.S. citizen, and live in another country, then fine...I have no problem with it. But if you arent a U.S. Citizen and Don't Live here, then shut up up about it. We don't need your know it all attitude, when clearly you don't.

Kerry or Bush or Nader...I don't care...
Being an American gives us the right to choose...
Know the issues at hand...Make your choice...
Vote. Make your voice heard...It's your god given right...
But don't be an A-Hole just for the sake of being an A-Hole
Just agree to disagree...and live and let live...
If your candidate doesn't Win, then vote again in 4 years...
Keep trying...you can't get the things you want, just because you
want them. This isn't part of the "NOW" generation.

In my experience, it is the libs who get all bent out of shape. But I guess it's really the extremes of both sides that are consumed with politics, and that seems to be all they have in life.

I know a couple people, that work next door to me. To figure out they're moods for the day, all I have to do is put it on CNN for a few minutes.

Of course, they were also one of many to say if Bush was elected they were moving out of the country. Oh well...

Right now, yes. During the Clinton era, it was the opposite. We all have "sky-is-falling" mentalities when our people aren't running things...

I agree...sorta.

I think if you actually believe what Kerry or Bush is saying, your a moron. They say what they're party wants them to say. What president hasn't screwed the pooch?

All of them did, and always will.

Believing a politician, that's funny. Might as well go to church if your that gullible.

Don't forget to tithe though!
