Its a cannondale headset adaptor, i need to move the tall one to the top for a DC fork, but how in the bleedin hell do i get the headset out? or, the top and bottom of the headset appear to be the same, other than the writing... do i even need to swap em? or can i run it ghetto style with the writing upside down?

Boy that's a tough one you've got there. I'd say you'll need an arbor press a piece of pipe that's about the size of the ID of that adaptor and a piece of pipe that's about the size of the OD of your headset cup but smaller than the OD of the adaptor. I'll bet you can't get it out without marring the adaptor though.

That's a tough one for sure. I don't think the inside edge of the races are the same, top vs. bottom. I'd almost think you'd be better off removing the cup before removing the adaptor from the frame (I'm assuming that the adaptor is pressed into the headtube, similar to the headset in the adaptor?)

it is pressed into the headtube, but nowhere near as tight as hte headset, so when i was trying to remove just the headset, the whole adaptoer came out

I had an idea that may or may not work. You'll need:

Peice of steel round stock, the same OD as the cup inside the adaptor, about an inch or two long..

A 3-arm automotive puller like this:

Slide the steel stock into the adaptor from the top, so it runs into the top ot the cup. Place the puller arms on the gap between the headset and adaptor and pull away. The puller arms may slip, so you may want to strap it shut with a ty-rap or some steel wire. Hopefully it wont marr the adaptor, or if it does, it will be fairly unnoticable.

ive measured every concievable part of the headset with calipers, and tested the races, and they apear to be the same. i think my best bet is to run it inverted or not change the tall one to the top. the short one is 1/8 tall ant the tall one is 1". how would the characteristics of the bike change? i think all ittle do is give me a steepr head angle (marginally). but is there a strength issue?

If they'll work inverted great, easy fix! As for the geometry thing, a slacker head angle will increase the stress on the headtube me thinks. It may not be an issue if the headtube can handle it, but I can't say wether or not it would.

Should the inversion not work, would a 1.5 to 1-1/8 headset not work? Sure, it is not a King, and requires spending money, but it could be a solution. I've noticed alot of pics where they seem to be running the Cane Creek headset without any of the adaptors.

i think im just gonna try putting it together ghetto style, with the headset upside down, and see if it seems like itll work. it runs on the races fine. i cant afford to fart, let alone buy a headset, plus i love my king.
