My son had a Cub Scout Bon fire last night , one ofthe things that had was a Gian Sling shot and lots of Apple drops ( apples that have dropped off of the tree , they can't be sold for food grade. )

and the target was a 4X8 Piece of plywood

they squirm too much and mess up the aerodynics of getting a good straight shot.

You can't throw apples very well with a trebuchet but pumpkins are another story.....

The house I grew up in was built on an old apple orchard and there was one very old very large apple tree in the back yard. The tree was too old to produce edible apples but it dropped tons of nasty wormy ones each year. The fun we used to have. The best apple launching device was the fiberglass pole from one of those old bike flags. Spear an apple onto the pole and you could whip the thing hundreds of yards.
