How to measure bb height?

I think my 36 feels "ok" and I have always loved my old shiver more than anything else I have ever had a chance to ride, so .... I put the shiver on my SXT. I expected to end up with some sort of monstrosity that was fun to look at, and mess around with, but stupid to ride. Much to my surprise it doesn't seem to have turned the bike into "The Rake-Monster" that I expected.

The point of this post is that I'm measuring my BB height from floor to the center of the spindle. I stood the bike up against the wall such that it was barely balanced, and about to tip over. This way I figure it is as close to vertical as I'm going to get. So I measure the BB height, and it is somewhere right between 13.7, and 13.9. I didn't even think I went that low stock.

Guess I'll have to leave it on there for a while and see how it works out. Hopefully the front end doesn't rip off.

i cant remember the exact numbers and i am too lazy to work them out again, but the 36@6in has roughly the same a to c height as a 7in boxxer.

since you shiver is a 7in fork, it should be around that or lower.

oh yea, to keep on topic. most geometry charts will say what a to c fork is used in measuring the bb height. tires also make a difference too.

Assuming you mean a dual crown shiver, that's not so surprising. The lower crown on a dual crown fork will take up less space than the crown on a long travel single crown fork like the 36. That's why a 7" single crown like a totem will result in roughly - roughly - the same geo as an 8" dual crown fork like a boxxer. Same with 66 and 888, etc.

Yea I never expected that.

Pics as requested.

Also, I know the top crow is sitting low on the legs. I simply left the lower crown alone when I took it off my other bike, and adjusted the top crown as needed. With the top caps off, I let it sit down as far as it will go and the tire didn't contact, so I guess it's good. I'm gonna roll it to my local trails as soon as they dry up.

Cool.
As far as the stock BB height,
It is lower than advertised.
I just put on a 08 36 Float RC2, and my BB is right at 13.7 even with 2.5 tires on.
I have had a 40, a Totem and now a 36 float on my SX trail, and I definitely prefer it with the stock geometry of the 36.
The new 36 forks feel great too. They run lower PSI now, because the damping does more of the work.
I am using my SX trail as my trail bike right now, and its a blast.
Anyway, your bike looks sick.

I think you need a bigger front rotor with that brake mount....
HAha. That took me a very long time to understand.

I thought that may have been the case when I was looking at getting a totem instead of the 08 VanRC2. I was afraid that it may skew the geo such that it was no longer the same snappy setup that makes it so fun. Since the geo barely changed with this fork I'll prob try it out once at diablo this spring and see how it feels.

BTW, the compliment means a lot coming from the owner of, arguably, the most bad-ass SXT ever. :)

Hey - Kriz, what up?

Heh - I see you resurrected the Shiver off of your Chapparral. What ever happened to that frame anyway? Remember the time we were hitting that drop behind the supermarket and you almost mowed down that other dude climbing back up? LoL... Jesus that was nuts.

Looks bitchin' man. Drop me a PM when you get the chance - it would be great to catch up.
