I need to change the spring but to do it I need to remove the reducers. How do I do it??

I've had some before that have been damn stuck, and I had to do the following:

1) place rag over the reducer;

2) grip reducer with a large locking vice-grip pliers;

3) slowly twist while pulling outwards.

I'm sure somebody else has a better idea, so I'd love to hear it. That's what has worked for me, though.
