It has come time to replace the rings on my XTR crankset(4bolt) and I bought a new 5 bolt (cheaper rings) spider but I can't seem to get the bolt holding the larger ring/spider off my crank arms.

I sprayed WD40 and I'm letting it sit a while to soak in. I have removed the C-Clip, small ring and I'm using the Shimano BB tool with a 32mm wrench to leverage it Counter Clockwise? (is this the right direction?)

Thanks I want to get this thing off tonight so I can go riding tomorrow with my new Evil DRS chainguide and new rings!

Thanks,
Chris

The tool you need has two parts, once the snap ring is removed place the tool over the notched nut, then a shaft bolt is used to secure the tool so it wont slip when loosening.

I just threaded that piece on and It made it easier but the flat metal Park 32mm wrench with the spanner on the end is not long enough for me to break it loose..

Off to the hardware store... Thanks for the help. I had always wondered what the rest of that tool was for.

18" 1/2 Rachet & 32mm Socket and 15 seconds of prep and It came off like butter.. Leverage is a good thing.

Thanks for the suggestions!
