My old man said if he ever caught me using pot, or any other drug, he'd kill me and I believed him. He was very old skool.

ditto. 'cept, i was/am interested in it. i never tried it 'cause i figured i'd like it, and that would lead to spending money that could be better spent on bike stuff.

My old man brought it up over a bowl when I was 16, I remember it as if it were yesterday. "If I catch pinching off my sack again I'm gonna break your arm" I believed him ;) He's "old school" that way :p

Well seeing how my dad's drug use (addiction) led to his leaving his wife and 3 children, and ultimatly divorcing his second wife - I had a pretty good example of what not to do. Not only that but seeing how my brother struggled with his addiction, and how my father encouraged that, has given my some pretty "miliant" views on drug use that I won't share on here.

well my parents talked to me about it when i got busted with it. lame.

if my kids (not that im ever gonna have any), my hypothetical kids, smoked a little pot every once and again then thats fine with me. they just need to realize that there are more important things. However i would have serious issues with them doing any other kind of drug.

:stupid:

Mom never said a word to me about alcohol, drugs and cigarettes. I've managed to keep the last two out of my life.

And I'm not going to have kids, so it won't be an issue. :)

Pretty much every kid is going to try pot these days. I tried it in the 7th grade. I dont smoke allot, just keep your kids poor and you wont have a problem, thats what kept me out of it.

I don't have ANY interest in it, but my dad can't really tell me not to do it. He smokes the "wacky tobaccy" himself...........

Yes they did when I was pretty young.
No hypocritical blabla about it's bad, illegal and bla bla just what it exactly was,
the effects of THC and the side effects.

When I was older they gave me this 'rule' : You drink alcohol OR you smoke pot, but NEVER EVER mix of alcohol and pot....
so I just choose what I was into that week-end.

I always respected their 'rule' because they gave me this "freedom of choice."
Honesty goes two ways.

I'm going to do the same thing with my kids...... just be honest about it.

My parents just basically made sure I knew about drugs/alcohol and suggested I don't do them. Its worked/is still working fine.

My parents never really said anything about it. I guess they figured I was smart enough to deal with it on my own. I suppose that's true....although I do drink....and have smoked a few times.....

I never got the talk. i didn't really know my parents stance on me smoking when I was younger, all I knew was I better not get caught & I didn't.
One thing I knew, my parents rather me smoke pot than cigs. (they are old hippie-health nut-fitness freaks now)

I think my mom smoked too much pot to ever tell me not to do it, so she never did. I think Ill tell my kids that Ill beat the christ out of them and their mother and then shoot the dog if they ever do it.

Its not bad, trust me. Id smoke more if i grew it or was rich. Its not a bad thing, and it never gets outta controll. If its firday and i over at my friends house, sure well smoke, its not like most teenagers smoke every night.

In my opinion drinking is allot more dangerouse (sp?). ALLOT MORE.

first: learn to spell.

second: learn to quit making stupid assumptions like the one you made about me never smoking pot

third: leave the computer and go play with some GI Joes or something

Parents threatened to turn me in to the police if I was caught using them, I'm pretty sure they would have too. But drugs were considered extreeeeemly bad by my parents, like only satan worshipers and murderers used them. Worked while I was in high school, college I did my own thing. Once I saw people who used drugs weren't all murderous psychopaths I came to my own conclusions. I think things would have worked better if my parents gave me a little more realistic explanation of things, but it was honestly the way they saw things.

I do not want my daughters to get high or drink alcohol, however I plan to focus more on realistic harm reduction and less on playing the wild-eyed autocrat. Considering my taste in music and tattoos, I find it unlikely that they will never find out or ask if I'd toked the sweetleaf. I will not lie, but by that same token, I will not minimize the risks or attempt to glamorize cannabis use. I waited until I was 15 to burn it up, but frankly, I wish I'd waited until college. It is really a decision that should be heavily weighed before any experimentation takes place. Our formative processes are just too fragile to risk needless interruption or haphazard affect before adulthood.
