Human Extinction Within 100 Years Warns Scientist

"A top New Zealand researcher is using a prestigious award ceremony in Christchurch to warn that humans face extinction by the end of the century.

Professor Peter Barrett will be presented with the Marsden Medal tonight for his 40-year contribution to Antarctic research, latterly focusing on climate change.

The director of Victoria University's Antarctic Research Centre expects to use his acceptance speech to warn climate change was a major threat to the planet.

"After 40 years, I'm part of a huge community of scientists who have become alarmed with our discovery, that we know from our knowledge of the ancient past, that if we continue our present growth path, we are facing extinction," Barrett said. "Not in millions of years, or even millennia, but by the end of this century." Barrett won the award – designed to mark lifetime achievement in the sciences – for his research into Antarctica, which began with helping prove New Zealand was once part of the Gondwanaland supercontinent."

I need to get a hunting permit for one of these "humans". I want to get one stuffed and mounted in the den before they are put on the endangered species list.

i find this amusing since many religous folk i knew were scared to death of Y2K.

From core sample taken from Anarctica scientists have determined that over the course of millions of years the average temperature on the Earth has actually fluctuated quite dramatically. in the time that us people have been roaming around we've had it relatively easy falling within only moderate temperature changes.
i didn't read the article to find if that's what he's talking about here, but i suspect. People are so stupid here, i suppose demons are supposed to come out of the sky and kill us off, nope it will be from our own hand.
Drastic temperature will cause famine war all kinds of subsequent crap. i personally think their's alot of validity to the threat. it makes sense.

Sounds like "The Day After Tomorrow"...anyone else see that movie?
I have not seen it, but someone on here posted a review and indicated there were these winds from high altitude that were sub-freezing that froze people instantly. This I can tell you is suspect at best, when a gas (in this case air) is compressed (as would happen when it decends through the atmosphere) it heats up, a.k.a. compressional heating................anyone ever heard of Chinook winds? These are winds that come down a mountain into a valley and as the decend they heat up, this is why Chinook means "snow eater" in Native American (not sure what tribe............).

Anyway...........that right there killed it for me as far as the movie is concerned.

As much as we do know about our climate and atmosphere there is still alot we don't know............I'm from Missouri you're gonna have to Show Me. :D

Anyone ever read The Hotzone? Scary crap, humans would survive environmental changes but a nice airborn virus could take out 98% of the population.
