Today's FTS log:
2:45am - power goes off

6:25am - Haley wakes up 45min late; we can't open the fridge because we don't have power

6:30am - Xcel notifies us power won't be back until AT LEAST 12:45pm. This is the third time an outage >6hrs in less than 2mos.

6:45am - Realize that I have an 8am call with no power, which means I have no internet because the router is down.

6:50am - setup hotspot, but phone is almost dead because it didn't charge overnight. Thankfully client is awesome and understands the cancellation.

7:15am - elementary school is closed for the day

7:30am - FTS, I'm getting a generator. HD has one left for sale and it's $1200. Luckily, a rental shows up right when I checked because two people showed up behind me looking for them.

8am - we're finally getting shit done.

10:15am - Comcast goes down. ETA is 2pm.

10:30am - hotspot goes up, but apparently everybody else is using it and it's slow as all hell.

10:45am - Outlook stops working. I can't see my appts later today or email to cancel meetings.

Currently - I have restarted the computer 3x since then because Outlook keeps seizing up.

I'm going to fucking kill somebody.

Get yourself a honda 2200 and Starlink, been my backup system for several years now and works great.

The Honda is my plan, they just don't have one available right now. It needs to power two fridges, a freezer, and two workstations. The 3000 I have right now is doing that just fine; I assume a 2200 would as well.

I'd say this is a dumb idea for someone living in the suburbs, but apparently @stoney is living in Nicaradouglas. :D

I've been able to run all the following on a 2200 for over a week with no issues, will run about 7-9 hours on one tank with this load

Starlink
Macbook
82" TV
Fridge
X2 chest freezers
Propane fireplace with blower motor
Gaming PC with 3 monitors
4 lights
3 phone chargers

Ironically, I've always had more issues with urban grids than rural ones. At the very minimum, a Honda 2200 will give you everything you need when the grid drops with minimal transfer time and very low noise. Thus another reason I am going offgrid solar even with a transformer at the end of the driveway. wont even tap into it

I did somebody's job for them yesterday because of production issues and they are bitching that I didn't notify them. So we're going to discuss it with their supervisor present. I have this affable demeanor that makes people forget I really really enjoy dickstomping them.

After the few day outage earlier this year our immediate neighbor installed a Generac generator plumbed into her natural gas supply with the auto switchover stuff when the mains goes down. I know others near us have got that too.

They managed to get it working early. Power just went up and Comcast went up 2min later.

This is all stemming from the new Sr. Center that is being built. Somewhere in the process of tapping into the electrical line, they fucked up severely. Hopefully they got it sorted this time, because I really don't want to deal with this again. The power was off for 9.5hrs. There are a lot of people with fridges full of food that will need to be thrown away now.

Yeah their videos are great and so is the store. Not always the best prices, but good selection of stuff and cheap shipping or should I say low barrier for free shipping.

I once almost shit myself laughing at a neighbor who was complaining they lost all the food in their freezer after an extended power outage...

What goes bad in a closed fridge in 9.5 hrs? Unless the doors are open the whole time the contents should still be cold…?

@jimmydean where in Scappoose were those foodtrucks? I am working over here today and getting hungry…

You think people are truly smart enough not to open their fridges?

Channel your inner Amish and you will find the refrigerator is over rated.

@Toshi, Mrs and I were discussing a bidet. Assuming it a firm shot of water to the chocolate star fish. . . Do you use a towel at that point to dry the region? Or do you just air dry. Seems as in our humid climate it may just proliferate already happening swamp ass/schmagma.

Ours has a hot air dry function. I still wipe after to ensure adequate cleanup, but the spray and dry gets 90% of the way there.

It's quite refreshing when the swass is abundant.

Whenever there's power outages for long periods of time I just go and buy ice and turn the fridge into a cooler.
When the melt pace is faster than the time you have to go get more ice, that doesn't work. Also when the fridge/freezer is full, that doesn't either.

says that guy who somehow can't open his fridge without power
I feel like we need to talk about whatever dystopian hellscape stoney is living in where a fridge door can't be opened without power.
Basic logic says don't open your fridge when the power is off because you don't know how long it will be off. Ours had a 12*+ shift between when it went out at 2:45am and I got a generator at 8:30am.

Also, the power went out again at about 3:30 and just went back on again. Fucking giddy.
