When the melt pace is faster than the time you have to go get more ice, that doesn't work. Also when the fridge/freezer is full, that doesn't either.

Basic logic says don't open your fridge when the power is off because you don't know how long it will be off. Ours had a 12*+ shift between when I'm it went out at 2:45am and I got a generator at 8:30am.

Also, the power went out again at about 3:30 and just went back on again. Fucking giddy.

Water has a volumetric thermal capacity >3000 times more than air. Quickly opening a fridge a few times will have little effect on temperature, especially if it is full.

Also how large do you think the average household refrigerator is that it would represent a significant financial loss? Don't tell me, you have a spreadsheet....
Current prices? Most people have over $250 of food in their fridge + freezer. If you have a stand alone freezer, which is really common, you might have another $500+.

In a van.... down by the river
I mean, we can go into the mechanics of inflation but realistically, Cheeto Jesus is the originator of our current inflation/price issues for daily goods.
Whenever conservative acquaintances start to froth about prices, I consider engaging them in a substantive discussion about how inflation is a lagging indicator, but then I don't, because this is all the responses I'll get:
