ok, so i got shimano XT shifter/brake pods. my front brake decided to close up on me so i couldn't get my front wheel on. of course i didn't notice this until i got to my ride destination. so i ended up taking the pads out so i could mount the wheel. so what's going on? i suck at being a mechanic so is this fixable for me to do or am i taking a ride to the LBS.

did you squeeze the lever while the rim was off the bike? You will probably have to push the pistons back.

take the pads out, get a closed ended wrench and push/walk the pistons back. There is a piston behind each pad.
put the pads back and you should be fine.

I think this is the issue... that's what happened to my friends Hayes and that's how we fixed it. You might be able to find the Help pamphlet on the companys website...
