Just half of my finger about 1" long. It bled for over 24 hours & still hurts like hell.
I think I may stop wearing my wedding band.

Stupid story how it happened....I was leaving my office quickly to run to another office, I grabbed the door jam in my office & used it to turn as I was leaving, my ring got caught under the striker plate of the door, my ring stayed as my finger was ripped by the force of me running out of my office. I looked down & saw a flap of skin dangling, & blood starting to pour out.

Fun times.

That sucks TN, I hope you heal up ok.

Is your wedding band flat with a squarish edge ?

That's one thing I've never understood about a lot of traditional jewelry makers who continue to produce flat bands. I've seen this happen before. A wedding band should have a slight curve to the inside and no sharp edges.

JBP is correct about not wearing any jewelry, especially rings when working around machinery or doing any serious riding.

Good luck.

My own world inside my head
We had a guy at Goodyear about a year ago, everyday I told him to take his ring off, and how dangerous it was to be working on cars with it on<IE Shorts, Hangups ETC>. But he didnt listen, and is now missing his ring finger. He shorted it out on the alternator stud, and it melted near instantly. Dont think a fuze will save you, it didnt for him. It didnt sear his finger off, but it seared it pretty much to the bone, it was about four weeks later they had to amputate the finger from infection due to the flesh dieing off. It was nasty, and its a one of a kind scream I would like to never hear again.

Something like that happened to my friends cousin. The dude went up to slam dunk a basketball, but his finger got caught between the back part of the rim and the backboard. He landed on his feet without flesh on his ring finger, like in the pic. He was wearing a wedding band.

easy for you to say. You didn't almost deglove your finger.
I almost degloved my entire hand once from the middle of my palm to my finger tips. Work accident involving large boulders and an excavator bucket trying to move said large boulders with my hand as a cushion inbetween. So put that in your pipe! :monkeydance:

All these stories are exactly why I have never worn a wedding ring. Jewelry has no business in any of my business'. About 6 years ago I did have my wedding ring tattoo done, I told my girl if she dumped me that I would remove the ring with my nice Fiskars loppers and send it to her in a zip lock bag.

Don't need any. I just folded the skin down & put a band aid on it. Should be fine. It is nothing like the pictures on Google.
