Ouch.. That blows. Poor packaging job or did they really beat it up that much?

Hope it was insured...
Packaging was factory from dell, there was an object that went through the box, it was fully insured. I will be getting a new one in a couple days. Still blows though...

Return it and get a 2407 if you have the money, they just came out in the US. They've tracked down the banding issues in early non-US 2407 to a firmware bug I think which can be fixed and they have an A02 revision already shipping supposedly. Here is a big thread about the 2407.

I got dual 1907FP w/samsung panels for about $500 recently. One of the two I received was damaged (poor QC or maybe DHL), but I got a replacement unit pretty quick - a day or two. Spot the oldest object on my desk and guess its age

I've noticed various TVs now do 1080p, Hitachi is making a 32" 1080p LCD for about two grand - wonder if you could run it as your PC monitor :D Sony also has some new LCD TVs with 1080p too...

The Dell and Apple's actually use the same LCD display...you will be super happy with the dell. I went gateway just for all of the HDTV inputs for about the same price as the dell.
Yes this is True. My brother use to work for a big company when they were not considered a big brand name. For purposes of annonyminity let's say, RM Company. RM company at the time wasn't as well known as Brand BIG NAME at the time. I was looking at a more expensive, Brand BIG NAME scanner and he said, "We make those for them." I was like what? He said, "Yeh save yourself some money. It's the same scanner. If you open up the top of the Brand BIG NAME scanner right inside it says, RM company." A lot of companies manufacture for others. It's like going to Giant and getting Nyquil or Gaint's brand Nightime. They both have the same exact ingredients and the store brand is a buck cheaper. The pharmicist will tell you it's made by Nyquil. I also have been told the same about LCD's. A lot of companies buy the LCD from companies that specifically produce Liquid Crystals and then they simply put them in a box and put their company logo on it. It's like expensive pens like CROSS, Garland, or Zippo. All pen manufacturers that make expensive pens get all their parts from same TUBE manufacturers. And the funny thing is, if a person buy's a Zippo and it fails, they might think, "Oh what a cheap pen, I should have bought a Cross." But a Zippo uses the same exact insert that a Cross uses. If the Cross fails, the person probably figures, "Ah it's just the insert went bad." They'd assume it's the insert on the Cross but think the Zippo is an inferior pen. That's all in Branding and that's how advertising works.

The way to be certain you get what you pay for, is compare the tech specs on the LCD and you'll know what you are getting. I Check for nits of brightness, high resolution, contrast ratio, response time etc. It all comes down to doing research. Be an educated consumer and get your best deal.

I too looked at the Apple and thought, "WAY overpriced for what I'm getting. I got a Veiwsonic that had the same resolution but better ratings than the Apple and saved over a grand $1500. There's ALWAYS a better deal, just beware of those that sound too good to be true.

The "white" stain on the chair :D and the chewing gum under table.

I PERSONALLY think that every LCD monitor that is over 20 inches should come with a free year's subscribtion to Jenna Jameson .com and a year's worth of KY lubricant! :D

You ARE aware that, THAT METEOR online to collectors, is worth in some cases over a grand. For that kind of money you could add to it and get a 42 inch PLASMA MONITOR. OOOOooh YEHHHhhh! Just get some 3D glasses and... REAL lifesize porn!

While its true about the LCD panels themselves, there are differences in the boards that drive the LCD and firmware. There can be a difference in the image quality and feature set due to this. Most likely the only major reason to buy one over the other though would be better features or if the firmware/LCD board from one company has a defect that negatively effects image quality.

on this note i might add that G2 Pro rollerball pen bodies fit Mont Blanc inserts if you unscrew the conical, metal tip of the G2 a few mm...

Toshi makes a lot of sense, thats how a lot of people act by me, along with me..its just human nature..if you pay more for something you expect it to work, and if it doesnt you think its a defect..but if you get something cheap its like hey i took a shot..whatever..thats like common sense to me and probably a lot of other people..usually the more money you spend the better it is..but its all brand names now...
