I finally got an Avalanche MTN-8 for my bike. Coming from a Monster it rides fantastic. Taking all the small stuff and still feels so superior on the bigger hits. Avalanche suspension rules all the way :) :) :)

why?

attention to detail and quality of finish, a far superior damping system too.

whats up with the wheels in that pic , an odd spoke pattern or my eyes or what?

When I had my front wheel build they did not have the right length of spokes for the Seismic hubs, so it has a 3X in the front....I admit it looks a little odd, but it still holds up. Will go back to 2X next time.

compared to what? everything else on the market?
pretty much, well at least everything i've tried which is almost any modern fork dh in production.

p.s it is worth mentioneing though that they're heavy, not as strong as people make out and are very sensitive to the torques placed on the crown bolts.

Wow! That's awesome! I thought the Monster T was the smoothest thing available...

Are you coming to Vånga this weekend?
Can't wait to see the bike in real life!

Roger.

I am not sure about the fragile crowns, but I think there might be a difference between the DHF DH series (race forks) and the MTN (almost MX size ) forks.......I have newer seen a DHF, so I am not sure though.

Yes, I will come to Vanga in the weekend if I can get a lift with someone. It is always the problem. Hope to see you there :)

i have a dhf8 , i've had no probs with the crowns , i've done 2 sets of legs now though 1 cracked, 1 bent. they do an upgrade kit to beef them up but it adds 1,5lbs to the weight of the fork so i've been avoiding it.

Btw this doesn't really reflect badly on the fork i break everything and over the last year i've probably put in more riding time in a month than many people do in a year.

Wow, - so you must be the man to ask. Are there significant differences in the construction of the crowns on the DHF8 and the MTN8 ? :)

See ya!

The DHF-8 and MTN-8 are two totally differnt forks. Both awesome, but both totally different. The MTN-8 is stronger, while the DHF-8 is designed for all out race use and is lighter.

Both are awesome, awesome forks.

Is there any truth in what 360 says about Avy forks having weak crowns that are sensitive to the torque pressures placed on them and the bolts?/

I wouldn't have thought there'd be any forks stronger than Avalanche, other than Monster Ts etc.. to be honest....

Well, still, - I think there might be some differences of the DHF and MTN series when it comes to the crowns, but I am not sure. Looking at the MTN crown, "weak" is not the first impression that comes to my mind....but still, maybe someone have had some problems

Dare I ask how much the whole bike weighs?

edit: It's just morbid curiosity is all...

I actually do not know what the weight of the bike is. I am not really the racer-boy type, so for me the weight does not matter so much. But I am quite sure that it is pretty heavy ;)

No doubt, was just curious as to what those Seismic hubs, Avy equipment, and the rest of the heavy gear actually adds up to :D

My guess would be 50-52lbs. Actually the frame is fairly light, my Disco weighed 48.5lbs with Big Un hubs, Avy (steel spring) and a Stratos S8.

My Army weighs about 43lbs:thumb:
