Anybody who knows about the crowns on the DHF series ? Would like to know !
my word not good enough?

anyway i didn't have any problems with them breaking , they're just very torque sensitive ,too tight and they impede the stanchion , too loose and they slip its a very fine line.

its the uppers that break.

360; Do you mean the uppers of the crown or the upper of the legs?/ (cool bike btw! ie your Tomac 204)

Avalanche are bringing out a 11.2lb 45 mm upper tube, triple pinch lower crown, version of the DHF soon, it should be at Interbike... Its basicly a beefed up DHF obviously, and maybe its introduction is in light of what 360 has been saying....?? (ie reported breakages etc) Who knows?/

Avalanche have also got a piggyback version of the DHS shock which they hope to introduce at Interbike... along with smaller reservoir options..... They are also introducing a low pressure seal head to reduce nitrogen pressure in the shocks.

Does anyone know how often an Avy DHS shock should be serviced?/ I seem to remember someone saying; after every 88 hours use, but I thought It cant be coz Avy are pretty much maintenance free and durable.. (I thought) I mean if someone did DH everyday they'd soon go over 88 hours usage, I'm sure.... :OS
Anyone got any info to shed light on this issue?/

Are there any plastic parts in Avalanche shocks?/

I believe they should be topped off with nitrogen every 6 months or so.

did you pay the full price? ouch!!!!

No, - not at all ! I got it second hand. In great condition and a good price. I would not be able to dash out all the $ for this fork. It even have some upgrades making it even more expensive if I had bought it from new.

when i say uppers i mean upper legs.

anyway craig offered me the beefed up version when i broke them but my bike is heavy enough without another 1.5lsb on the front.

Maybe an odd question, but how did they break ?

You just said yesterday; 'I didn't have any problems with them breaking' Yet now you said they broke...... I smell bull****.. lol

Do you mean that how tight you do up the crown bolts effects the torque loads and its hard to get the bolts just right??

I am a little confused too. Can you f### up the legs just by tightning the bolts ? Sounds strange to be...or atleast, - something I have never experiend.

The only reason I'm asking is because I'm interested, and the best source of information on a product USSUALLY comes from someone who used the product...

looks like i havent been very clear, oh well...

i havent had any problems with the crowns breaking , the upper legs are a different story. you do seem to be getting confused between crowns and uppers.

by over tightening the crowns you can distort the legs, or even damage them, over tightening also impedes the stanchion as your essentially ovalising a bushing.

when i cracked the legs im not sure how i did it , i just noticed oil at the top of a run , when i bent them that was the result of a crash.

hope thats cleared that up , looking back at my posts it seems to make sense to me , but obviously not...

Hey dont worry 360, its ok dude..... I'm not getting confused between upper/lower legs, upper/lower crowns etc at all, its just you dont explain yourself too well....

I think the reason your forks broke is down to you; ie you didn't follow the correct way of tightening them......and over tigtened them..... yeah?/

Of course it makes sense to you...... a totally retarded little gimp makes sense to himself probably!

I reckon you were just to ham fisted and kept cranking those bolts tighter and tighter...... Did you tell Craig?/ What did he say?/

While we are on the subject of the DHF, is there anyone out there who has one that also has experience with the Shiver? I'm curious at how the Avalanche compares.

Oh if you mean the bit about the retarded gimp, I was in no way refering to 360, I was mearly pointing out that all people understand themselves, even the most retarded people on earth have a good understanding of what they are saying.....

I meant this in no way to 360..

Sorry if I caused offence..

Go to avy's website. All you'll need to know is on the site.

i have NOT previously considered getting an avalanche. the Mtn-8 was too much money and looked to weigh more than a monster T & the DHF-8 was too much of a racer fork. I wanted something in the middle. I hear there is a beefier version of the DHF-8 coming out called the DHF-MT. I cant wait to see that thing! I recently had my monster and boxxer apart and they dont even compare to the build quality of the Avalanche. The monsters build quality looked much better than the boxxer - that fork was a joke! Take a look at this pic, no mass production, stamped out of a mold here:

This is the end cap of a lower slider tube where the axle clamps and brake mounts. Too cool!

...

maybe its worth pointing out that avy forks use a dynamic bushing.

this means that the top bushing sits on the top of the stanchion, sliding on the inner surface of the uppers.

this makes for more bushing overlap than when you use two static bushings, also as a side effect from the inner surface of the upper leg being smooth, there can be no contamination of the oil

the downside is that any deformation of the upper leg, be it by overtorque or impacts, will affect the correct function of the fork.
