And I don't care where to.

Reno sucks a bunch of dicks only like a bad gay porn could. Its a black hole for ambition, style, motivation, intellect and soul. I gotta get the **** outta here.

So I need some suggestions.

I like to ride my bicycles.
I like to kayak.
I like to snowboard.
I like to surf.
I like guns, shooting guns, and being able to own guns without fear of reprisal from the local/state government.
I like rent around $800/mo for a one bedroom one bath that's nice.

I'm an attorney, but I am fried on the business. Souless suck ****s with no real talent or ability beyond sucking money out of people. Tired of waking up thinking I shoulda gone to art school.

Give me some ideas. I'd like to be able to hit five outta six of my likes.

:stupid:
Colorado Springs is also nice for those activities (except for the surfing of course), but if you think Reno is a soul sucking town its got nothing on the home of Ted Haggard and Focus on the Family. I've been trying to get out for almost 5 years now.

Seattle. Seriously. We have the mountains with some of the best back country skiing (there are some secret stashes if you ever make it out I'll turn you on to).
For snowboarding we have: Crystal Mt; Alpental; White Pass; Mission Ridge; Stevens Pass; and Mt. Baker
For Biking we have: a ton of fun xc trails, 4 hours from Whistler, Stevens Pass is working on a bike park, Tiger Mountain, and many many trails I don't know about yet. Plus we have lots to offer for road biking if you are interested.
For Kayaking: Sea Kayaks can hit up the Puget Sound.... and take a sea kayaking backpacking trip through the San Juans (that trip is on my bucket list!); Whitewater kayaks can go to Snoqualmie River, the Skykomish River, the Yakima river
For Surfing, head to the coast. It's not like Hawaii or anything, and you have to wear a wet suit almost year round, but there is surfing on the coast at Westport and Ocean Shores, and Shy Shy beach (that's supposed to be the best).
For shooting... where can't you shoot? There're ranges everywhere, you can head up any forest service road (pretty much) and find some sweet spots, and there is lots of hunting, though I don't hunt.
Whatever kind of night life scene you want, you can find, often within Seattle city limits.
It wouldn't be difficult to find an $800/mo apt in Seattle or the surrounding cities.

Now, on that note. Our traffic sucks and we'd prefer to ship more people out than bring them in, but I can't imagine a better place for all of your above mentioned activities. Washington is my favorite playground.

In no particular order, what comes to mind:

-CO Front Range
-Salt Lake
-Bend
-Portland

Only lived in SLC. If the Momos don't bug you, the outdoor access (and quality of the access) is pretty much unbeatable. Dirt cheap (though getting spendier), too. Great local beer and coffee. Nightlife sucks, but you can find your social niche. The "outdoor" crowd is pretty social, fun, and inclusive. Far fvcking away from everything else civilized (6 hrs to Veghass). Some of the loosest gun laws in the country. Surfing the Great Salt Lake is kind of...no. Kiteboarding has a small following in the area, though, on some of the more windy mountain reservoirs. SoCal-style sprawl is a big deal...get used to stucco, strip malls, and 12 lane freeways outside of the city.

Seattle is out of the question. Greenhood is right, I kinda got banned by proxy from there.

Right now I am still scheduled for Phoenix on August 15. Part of me thinks this is genius, but on the other hand I need somewhere to reinvent myself. Phoenix has the girlfriend, which is cool, but also limits the ability to turn it inside out.

In this dirty old part of the city
Where the sun refuse to shine
People tell me there ain't no use in trying
Now girl you're so young and pretty
And one thing I know is true
you'll gonna die before your time is due

watch my daddy in bed and tired
watch his hair been turning gray
He's been working and slaving his life away
oh yes I know
He's been working so hard
I've been working too
Every night and day
Yeah Yeah Yeah
We gotta get out of this place
If it's the last thing we ever do
We gotta get out of this place
'Cause girl, there's a better life
For me and you
now my girl you're so young and pretty
And one thing I know is true, yeah
You'll be dead before your time is due
you know it
watch my daddy in bed and tired
watch his hair been turning gray
He's been working and slaving his life away
I know
He's been working so hard
I've been working too
woahh
Yeah Yeah yeah
We gotta get out of this place
If it's the last thing we ever do
We gotta get out of this place
Girl, there's a better life
For me and you
oh baby

We gotta get out of this place
If it's the last thing we ever do
We gotta get out of this place
Girl, there's a better life for me and you
oh you know it, baby
and I know it, too, baby
oh yea

I was going to say SLC. Lots of mountain biking, although nothing like N*. If you like XC, Utah rips. If you like snowboarding, Utah rips. Can't beat the pow we get. Things are a bit slower paced out here, but it's relaxing and chill. There are certain things you learn to ignore like Blue was saying. The mo's. One thing's for sure though, lots of hot girls in Utah, lots of outdoor activities to be done out here too.

Hopefully with WAFTA on the scene the local resorts can get on the DH wagon. It's kind of ridiculous that there's 11 ski resorts within an hourish drive of a 2 million person metropolis and a grand total of something like 10ish "real" DH trails between them all. The kicker is that they almost all offer lift-access riding in the summer...

I almost thought about adding Boise to my list as a "LOL" candidate, but I thought DMG would be able to see through that.

I'm sure he's been, but think Reno sans decent mountains and a semblance of a nightlife.

I hear ya. Went riding with Craner and some other friends saturday up at DV. They put in some new trail. Good lord, those people have no idea what riders are looking for in a good trail. Believe it or not, this trail actually had a little bit of flow in the beginning, then it went into some 180 degree berms that just take the speed from you. They have no clue.

I lived on Grays Harbor, Washington for many years. Cost of living is low but unemployment is high; financial independence is a must. You can still buy a decent house for under 100G or rent a shack at the beach for about $500.00. Surf, kayak, mtn bike year round without having to travel. The Olympic peninsula is a fantastic place to live on a limited income. Surfing at Westport has been mentioned - its the on the south side of the harbor. As for guns - cant drive 5 miles out any county road without passing a gun club.

Snow, rent, and guns definitely lose big here...

World class surfing, but the bike riding is okay - nothing spectacular.
