Ok here's the plan. The freakos want to arm everyone right? So I thinkthere should be a ...say 5 year pilot project. Pick one of the redneck states that wants to do this, and let 'em. Get a good state too, with lots of crime and racial tension and let's see what happens. Maybe they will prove themselves right.....or they wipe themselves out. I don't see how we lose either way......

Yeah, this plan has been in place since like 1776.

The "rebel against a government when you think it's tyrannical" hasn't ever worked out so well, however.

The only thing someone can do if you're noticed carrying in a privately owned place posted as "no carry" is ask you to leave. If you don't, they can call the police, who can cite you for (I think) trespassing if you're around when they arrive.

why do you think racial tension is a necessity? iirc, the most highly concentrated incidents of illegal gunfire - and therefore criminality - happens in homogenous areas.

not that it could hurt...

It's not REQUIRED perse....it just might make it that much better.
your desire for instant gratification has 'mericanised you.

oh, and i think you have raleigh-durham nc, atlanta ga, or birmingham al, in mind. (richmond va turned cambodian in the late 80's & holds promise, too) this experiment has been playing out for decades, and has grown faster than most blue chips. stay tuned.

God Danm. The goverment should not take control Guns. The gun was not responisble for the shooting. Owning a gun does not mean you are going to shoot someone. A lot of poeple own guns, but not every gun has shot someone. In fact, most guns have not shot someone.

I believe what we need is to slowly tighten gun control, like over the course of 20 years, and reduce the violence on tv/film/video games, via the ratings board and social commentary.

Laugh if you will, but dumb ideas like recycling and reducing smoking were done like that.

Had a buddy in highschool that was way into the military before he was way into pot... ended up turning his bazooka (yes, bazooka) into a killer 3 ft bong.

He once brought a (real, but not live) grenade into elementary school, and made a video in 6th grade of himself handling a teargas cannister but his gas mask was too big for him and it leaked in and he yacked inside it. It was an awesome video.

one interesting point of the article is how they have one of the lowest national crime rates worldwide, and how almost every house hold has a fully automatic weapon loaded and ready to go at all times.[/url]
They're also fiercely nationalistic, universally wealthy and culturally homogenous.

I love how gun advocates are all about how it's not the guns it's the culture whenever there's gun violence, but are happy to ignore cultural context where there isn't gun violence.

You mean sort of how everyone tries and put the "Well in Europe they do it so the US can"?

Oh, wait, it only works when you want it to right?

Give me a minute while I sigh the sigh I always sigh when responding to you.

*sigh*

Switzerland happens to be a horrific example for the reasons I mentioned. "Europe," however, is not the same thing as Switzerland, and portions of Europe are very good analogies to the US for both good and bad policy, with the proper caveats. For example, France and England both have large immigrant communities, , and have done very mixed jobs of dealing with them... something we can learn from.

Did I mention you're a douche?

Yeah, because countries that don't have a <Population density, government, values, culture, immigrant influx, history, economic profile, education, economic/population makeup> is such a good basis.

Oh, and if you want to base how the US should treat its immigrants to a place like France, did you forget that recently the immigrant population of France freaking rioted for pretty much the entire summer because the French people and government crapped all over them?

Do you intentionally not comprehend what people say? You might want to read Ohio's post again...only this time, try understanding the words that are on the screen. Let me refresh your memory:

Now, I've brought attention to the salient points by bolding the text. Now look at the underlined, bolded, and italicized text. What about that didn't you understand from the first read through...

Try again, junior...

Mixed means they did something right, and I don't know what planet you live on, but a summer of rioting where stories of years of what essentially is segregation doesn't sound like anything right to me. Plus, we already went through that lesson ~40 years ago.

So, once again, if we are already ahead of them, why in hell should we use them as an example of what we should do, and what we could learn?

NY taxes on cigarettes makes it $8 a pack and there is no smoking in bars for about 10 years now. I think NY is doing well.

Do we need gun control? Did anything happen with a handgun last week? Or is the plan is to do nothing and hope people stop shooting each other?

BTW, much stricter laws for insane and criminals might be a good idea. If gun and ammo taxes needs to be raised to create a database, so be it.

Thats what the rest of the world said after Katrina too. We aren't ahead of France.
