I rode for the better part of an hour today - a very, very soggy hour. The last part of the ride is a solid climb - not real steep, but about as much as I could handle this time of the year. I dropped the travel on my TALAS all the way down - I couldn't believe the difference... the bike felt totally different. I can DEFINITELY see how cranking down the travel would be really beneficial on steep climbs.

Travel Adjustment is a wonderful thing.

I never used mine when I had it, but I like to climb seated and spinning. I'd rather have the travel so I can just point the bike uphill and roll over stuff. I can see how useful it would be if you liked to climb standing though.

this is why i miss the old days, when trail bikes weren't 10 feet tall, and why i ride a ~1996 hardtail.
