What an idiot. I wonder if there is a "fee" you have to pay to get rescued (or should there be one).........kind of like when climbers get themselves into bonehead situations in RM national park you had to reimburse the departments that saved your a$$. Or journalists should sign a waiver that if they ignore security advice and put themselves in harms way they are on their own to get their a$$ out of dodge...........

"...it makes you really wonder whether he was worth rescuing, whether it was worth the cost of a soldier’s life."

Yes, yes it does. And the answer is no, he is not worth it.

It wasn't worth a kid's life either. And he/she didn't even sign up for it...

Wow, how insightful of you. Shut up Silver. Really. Dont you ever get tired of hating everything you hate?
I'm touched to see your empathy doesn't extend to a little brown kid who didn't have the foresight to pop out of a vagina in a first world country...

I'm pretty sure he was referring to this in the article:

Mr Farrell, 46, was unharmed in the rescue but his Afghan interpreter, Sultan Munadi, 34, was killed together with a woman and a child.

So that means this guy cost 4 lives...definitely not worth it.

Yeah, thats it exactly...
I'm touched to see that you are still a judgemental internet douchebag who reads his own little twisted slant into others postings. This idiot reporters selfish, shortsighted acts in pursuit of a story resulted in 4 unfortunate deaths, too bad yours wasnt one of them.

Classy, as always. So far, in this single thread, you've implied that the reporter should die, and that since I pointed out a little kid got killed in the rescue I should die as well. Anyone else you want to add to that list? My grandma? My dogs? Wife too, perhaps?

It's odd, I didn't even point out the woman and the interpreter because I figured some mouth breathing American patriot would stand up and sputter and indignantly point out that the life of a Western soldier WILL NOT be compared to a few Afghanis. I also figured pointing out the kid's death was pretty uncontroversial. Thanks for proving me right and wrong at the same time.

Well if the heavily epauletted ones had their way there'd be no journalists at all in the combat area so I'm disinclined to listen to their complaints. That soldier, unfortunately, paid the full measure. It may have been his day anyway. If there's blame to be spread, blame the Taleban, they killed him.

Dude, you two are in agreement: the reporter wasn't worth the people that died for him, including...

- 1 soldier
- 1 interpreter
- 1 afghani mother
- 1 afghani child

cheeeeeeeeellll.

This didn't sound like a journalist in the combat area... certainly not moving with a unit. He went off on his own (well, with an interpreter) to a disputed village. Not sure how common this is, but it seems worse advised than slipping across the NK border looking for a human trafficking story.

I dunno, in the days before embedded cheerleaders that used to be how you got the story. The NY Times isn't the local rag, I'd expect their guys and others from respected publications to be pushing to see more than they're allowed to be shown.

Two things:

There has been no word that this reporter disobeyed any safety or security rules. The only people interviewed were ex-military.

However, I'm positive there will not be a detailed report from the New York Times or any other major news outlet. I noticed with several reporters captured, there has been no thorough investigation or reporting.

I love your constant keen insights into others minds and true motivations. First you imply that I am racist because I dont mention the death of "a little brown kid who didn't have the foresight to pop out of a vagina in a first world country" and then imply that I wish death on your family and dogs. Both are patently ludicrous and fine examples of the way your sad little mind works.

Never did I state the reporter should die. I simply opined that his rescue, from an area that he apparently was told not to go to, and did anway, was not worth the cost of anyones life.
You are worse then the GoP morons pedaling fear politics. Just throw your little shots and tidbits of hate out there and see if anyone bites.

The childs death was a tragedy, just as the soldiers. Yet you point out that he signed up for it...implying that he deserved or asked to die, knowing nothing of him or his life situations that led him to the Paras. Nice. Wish death on a man fighting for your right to be a moron.
