Because a white Republican from Virginia with an affinity for the Confederate flag being racist is hardly a shocker. It's sort of like finding out that a NAMBLA member likes to have sex with little boys.

So, I was wondering what everyone thought of George Allen and the monkey remarks? I found it delightfully ironic that Allen welcomed a person who was born in Virginia to America.

He's still spinning. All a misunderstanding, according to Allen:

Racist comments are spun to be a joke after said joker was called out. No class, ignorant comment, but saddly, I'm not surprised it happened.

I thought about posting something on this as well.

He's a racist a-hole if you ask me, and I'm sure as hll not going to vote for him. He did it to get a laugh out of his completely (except for the guy he mocked) white crowd (and they did laugh, which doesn't speak well for them) and show that's he a good-ole-boy. It's disgusting.

Who is a douche and a nutball and just got defeated in a primary.

She also apparently doesn't have presidential ambitions.

Yeah, cos there's been a long and well documented history of white people disparaging other white people with monkey/banana jokes.

My memory is a little vague considering it's been 8 years since I heard of this stuff, so I might be wrong....

Did white liberals like Al Gore give a sh!t that there is a bust of the founder of the klan in I belive in either the state senate or congressional building in TN?

Do they care that there are streets named after the founder of the Klan?

or....

Care that the confederate flag is protected in the same way that people want to protect the US flag?

Not that I really give a sh!t about either flag or liberals or conservatives in general.

Still spinning:

http://hotlineblog.nationaljournal.com/archives/2006/08/a_new_explanant_2.html

If this lame ass explanation is the case, shouldn't it have been mocaca, and not macaca?

Even so, if I heard people who worked for me going around calling someone with dark skin a term they made up but that just happened to be a derogatory term in a language that I understood, I'd put a stop to it.

Then again, I'm not a racist...

I certainly care if the founder of the Klan has streets named after him and a bust in the TN legislative building. Of course, in TN, I wonder who is in control, liberals or conservatives. But anyway, yeah, that is wrong. So is the use of the Confederate flag in state flags of various southern states. Do you think that I actually protest a racist effer like Allen and then turn around and support the Klan?

I think he's getting at the fact that white people usually aren't racially denigrated with comparisons to monkeys.
I know what he's getting at. The real issue is that people automatically equate any such reference as racist, when in fact, it may really not be. Patrick Ewing for instance, looks like a freaking monkey, it cannot be denied. So does GWB. Celine Dion looks like a horse. Scottie Pippen looks like a totem pole. This guy looks like a macaque or whatever. WTF is racist about it?

You actually think he looks like a macaque? You don't think that a guy who has a self-professed love of the Confederate flag calling a brown person a monkey is suspect?

Ive never seen the guy, Im just saying that the guy would have to be retarded to make a blatantly racist statement like that in public. He may be stupid, but you dont get that far in life and be THAT retarded. I mean, if he was going to call him a monkey in that context, why not just say N*gger and be done with it? I highly doubt he meant the guy was less than human...

Or maybe he just let slip the racism that he generally hides. He was in an all white crowd (except for Sidarth) probably made up of like-minded people. Why not have a dig at the brown guy's expense?

And, for the record, he is famous for remembering people's names. He knew Sidarth's name, because they had been introduced when Sidarth started documenting Allen's tour.

Not at all. The whole episode smacks of racism. "Welcome to America." Couple that with Allen's past record and the fact that he knew the guy and it all adds up to one conclusion. Sure, it could have been aliens taking over his brain, but we have no evidence for that. We do have evidence for Allen's racism.
