...from AM riding to DJ. I'm in between builds for another AM bike and decided to try my hand at another style of riding. One of the guys I ride with mentioned that I should check out the forum and poke my head in with the DJ crowd. I'm pretty new to this discipline of riding so I'm trying to soak up as much info about gear, local (San Diego) spots to ride, and network to find other local riders who can aid an old man to progress in this style of riding. Any help would be much appreciated.

i say start with a visit to a local bmx race track. then later on visit some skateparks/bikeparks and carve around the bowls and learn to clear pyramids and box jumps. only after that should you try attempt to clear gap doubles.

there is usually an old guy cruiser class at bmx tracks and mtb's are welcome. (and actually they are usually stoked to have new people, because they need new memberships to show there track stats and guys have new people to race against).
