any of you know some content filters for firefox??? a plugin or a program that i can use to restrict the internet (like porn, gore, games and such) but that doesnt mess up with anything else?????
I use content watch, for home use it's adequate. You can download a trial for free, use it for 10 days or so and decide if you want to keep it for like $25. The trial includes all kinds of neat stuff like remote access to reports and controls but after you register they want to charge an additional fee for that service, honestly I never needed the remote stuff so it doesn't bother me that much, just the fact that they don't disclose the features that aren't available after registering the product up front.
I don't think there are any free programs that actually work. At least I couldn't find any about a year ago.
The filter in IE only works to block everything but what's on an approved list, in other words it doesn't do a thing. I think it was one of those features MS included in IE hoping that some third party would develop a way of making it work. Nobody ever made it work though.
There are some more elaborate filters that work more like a hardware firewall. I can't remember the name of the one we had at work, St. Bernard's or something.
