"i have the right to free speech. "

Not here you don't. Post something relevant and perhaps at some point in the future people will be amused by your random garbage.

Yes, you do have a right to free speech, but you also have to follow the rules of a PRIVATELY OWNED forum. If you don't follow the rules, then you get warned or the thread is deleted. If whatever nonsense continues then you get deleted. Plain and simple.

These are the rules I found:

Pay close attention to rule #3. We will be disabling accounts without warning for violation of these rules.

THE RULES:
1. No racist or sexist remarks.
2. No overly-vulgar posts or pics. If you do not posess the judgement to decide what is overly vulgar, then don't post it.
3. NO FLAMING!!!! If there is a disagreement, discuss it like adults. Otherwise go somewhere else.

We are very serious about these rules. If you do not think that you can operate under these guidelines, go somewhere else!
And how did the George Carlin thread break these???

Its the unofficial religion and politics rule. There is a forum for the stuff that incites serious debate, and the lounge ain't it

It may not have. But, some of us have been around long enough to know exactly where those threads lead and it's never pretty. A little too quick on the trigger? Maybe, but it most likely would have been deleted eventually anyway.

Not to be a trouble maker, and with all due respect, why not move it to the political forum?

If the religion thing is a "rule" in the lounge it would be nice to know since I am known to shoot my mouth off about Jesus and God and stuff.

That thread was amusing at first because it was about a comedy routine, not religion. When it became preaching and arguing about religion, it became inappropriate for the Lounge.

I would have moved it, but that's not one of the things I can do. So I locked it. If another mod wants to move it there and reopen it, cool.

WORD. Thread has been moved to Political Debate and reopened. Have at it. I would have closed it too if I did not have access to move threads. Try keeping the "real" debates to the debate forum. :monkey:

It's hilarious that people think the 1st amendment was created to protect their right to be an idiot on someone elses Web site.

Here's the text of the first amendment for those that didn't pay attention in school:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Right-O. I thought about posting the 1st ammendment but doing so (to people preaching their rights have been violated) often is like throwing SPAM (the meat-like substance) at a wall. Sure you can do it and even some of it will stick, but the stuff that sticks is usually the jellotanous goo. :)

Ummmmm yeah...........;)

No "government" shall make a law.............

All hail the commander and chief, RM!

Yep. Free speech is great, but if you say something I don't like in my house, I'm going to throw your ass out.

They're much nicer here - they simply lock the thread or delete it and hope you take the hint. It takes some pretty blind stupidity or stubbornness to actually get booted.

Why could possibly make people think that joining a discussion group like this is some kind of right they have, instead of what it really is - a privledge that was granted?

You have no rights here. You're in another person's house, for all intents and purposes.

Where do "rights" enter into this?!

With regard to the 1st amendment it doesn't apply here. They are rules made about how the nation works with respect of how the government should act.

I agree with you..........but people who have a less of an understanding of things than I do (and that is scary) think the 1st amendment is a right that transcends into all aspects of life.

Wrong-o.

But then I might be off base here. Nawwwww. ;)
