Lowest I remember paying was about $0.79/gallon, and 5 bucks would give you a half tank. That was a happy time, when collecting three bucks from each of my friends for gas money on a road trip would give me a full tank of gas and a couple Jr. Bacon Cheeseburgers :D

$0.23/gal - a buck worked for a weekend.
I don't remember it that cheap... but I do remember when it was $0.35-0.40/ gal... we used to go to Gasamat and buy tokens for the fuel pump.

When I got my first car, it was $.82 a gallon (1988). My gas gauge didn't work so I topped off every day "just in case" with my new Beacon card. The bill the first month was $480 and away went the Beacon card. I was getting 6 mpg and a pack of smokes was $1.50 at the same station.

About 7 years ago, gas went down to $.99 a gallon for a while. However, for the most part, when I started driving gas was about $1.15...give or take. Although, I was born and raised in Southern California so we always pay a bit more for gas...

When I was a kid, I use to ride my XR80R moto to the convenience store right by my neighborhood. For less than a dollar, I could fill up the tank and ride it everyday for over a week.
It was a different world then though.
I never even got hassled by the cops.

When I started driving it in 98 gas was pretty cheap. I could fill my S-10 blazer's tank up with $20 (15 gallon). $1.30 somethin per gallon. Now that I live across the street from a gas station I randomly check it. Was up to $2.85 for 87 octane yesterday. That is such a huge jump in price.

But........now I drive my 91 full size. It has a 20 gallon tank I think. Maybe 22. I don't drive much unless I have to because I have no problem paying for gas, I just hate seeing $60 go to gas.

Now that the time change has happened though just more of a reason to ride a bike or get out an walk. It's suspose to rain the next few days but atleast we've had a couple days of 65+ outside.

$5 - did they have enough to make out of the station drive?

I used to have a big block Camaro and would run around with a tank of Sunoco 260 or av-gas if available, well half a tank if you were going street racing and weight conscious. :D

Less than 10 years ago, diesel was sub $1. I remember running farm diesel that was in the 30 cent range.

I think it was around $2-1.75 when I started driving 2 years ago, I also remember when gas was $2.50, and I thought that was exspensive, now the cheapest is 2.83 with most stations being 2.95.

$3.00 a gallon when I started driving:nopity: .

My car is pretty much $5 away from empty at all times. Being 16 with no job and having to pay for your own gas can be kind of hard.
